If the outside perception is that Otto is carrying the team, and as a result he wins the Wooden Award, would anyone complain? I know I wouldn't. As long as the team is functioning well, I would just lay low on this one and let it play itself out.

I think the Kemba Walker UConn team is a good comparison in some ways, as that team the next season had preseason All Big East first team, second team, and honorable mention guys in Lamb, Oriakhi, and Napier. Also, with the addition of Drummond, they were picked tops in the Big East and #4 in the AP. Saying that someone "carried the team" is not saying that the rest of the guys are devoid of talent. To the defense point, just take a look at conference individual D Ratings on Hoya Prospectus. Defense is a team stat, but our team defense seems to be a good deal better when he's on the floor. Except that team was 9-9 in the Big East that season and really weren't getting that much from Lamb, Oriakhi, and Napier. Walker created all of his own shots AND created all the shots for those three. They likely wouldn't have made the tournament had Walker not started playing out of his mind and continued for 3 weeks after. They also finished the following season 8-10 in the Big East and as a 9 seed when they probably shouldn't have even made the tournament. So while they got preseason hype for what they accomplished the previous season, it doesn't mean it was warrented.

If you want to learn what others in the big east think about Porter, brouse the other team's message boards. Really lots and lots of stuff on Otto and all of it complementary. Everyone in the big east just loves him.

But here's one more thing....Starks should be getting lots of consideration for 2nd or 3rd All Big East Team. He already had proven himself before conference play with great showings against UCLA and Indiana. But in conference play he has been very good and has stepped up overall. Yet you never hear anything about him from the media.

Nicole Auerbach @nicoleauerbach Asked JT3 how he'd define a player of the year. His response? "O-T-T-O."

I'm not sure that's so atypical, however, when a team has one perceived star. Not to mention that it wasn't long ago when no one was talking about anyone on our squad. If many of the commentators are remotely indicative of the familiarity of the rest of the media with our squad, I'm not surprised Starks hasn't gotten any love. It's still bugging the heck out of me that DSR got called Rivera Smith for an entire half of basketball. Dopes.

Jerry can you send us some links to these message boards praising Otto? Most every BE board that is still in it had a thread on the UConn V Gtown game.. all were complimentary of Porter..

Yesterday, Andy Pollin, the GM of Sports 980 whom I bashed recently, opened his show with his list of the top ten DC area college players of all time (guys who played at a DC area college). Of course most of his list was composed of Terps but he listed Otto as #10. Now that’s a bit ridiculous to put Otto up there when his soph season isn’t even over. What was even more ridiculous was when Pollin pointed out he had only seen a couple of Georgetown games this season. That was probably an exaggeration. I’m sure Pollin has seen about four! But my first question was how could a professional sports talk show host include on his list a guy whom he has only seen a handful of times? My other question was how can one be the GM of a sports talk radio station as well as a host of a daily three hour sports talk show while seeing so few of the ONE local college basketball team that has been ranked this season?
Pollin could break down every bum….er player that was on Maryland’s team. But he had no idea who the other Hoyas were outside of Otto. If your local media doesn’t give you any love…….

Top ten of all time college players and Otto was ten? Where were Ewing, Mourning, Iverson and Deke ranked? Don't tell me Len Bias was #1....

Nah. He had like three or four of Lefty's players other than Bias on the list. He didn't even include Juan Dixon. Ewing was #1, Bias was #2 and some other Terp was #3. He didn't include david Robinson because he doesn't consider Navy to be local (I kinda agree). But he did include Kermit of AU.
Iverson and Mourning made his list too. Don't think Sleepy or Reggie Williams did.
It led to another host of a different show to ask fans to call in and provide their own lists. Some interesting selections

When are the final votes for this cast? I've never paid attention to it before. After the regular season? Or after the conference tournament?

Otto's definitely our best player but it's our team defense that has put us first in the BE. Otto can't be given credit for our D.

Do you think Otto is better than Jeff (as a junior)? Jeff didn't get much pub for poy but that was the year of oden and Durant.
