I've changed my mind, and would be fine seeing us take him. He can create a little. POD I think it was this post that turned the tide for tre!

The 2014-2015 team could be shaping up to be a pretty nice mixture of young talent and experienced veterans. That year, Josh Smith, Hopkins, Whittington, Moses, and Bowen would all be seniors. DSR, Hayes, and Domingo would be juniors, Cameron would be a sophomore, and Copeland and Campbell will be freshmen. Really, the only "need" among that group is perhaps a younger big man who can play center, since there would be no obvious person to fill that role the following season.

www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/recruiting-insider/wp/2013/05/09/georgetown-snags-commitment-from-st-johns-junior-guard-tre-campbell/I know I’ve been telling people I’d make a decision in the fall, but I have a good relationship with the coaching staff and just felt like it will be a great fit for me,” Campbell said in a Wednesday phone interview. “They talked about how they liked my game and how I’d have an opportunity to play as long as I kept working hard.” Campbell knows some might wonder how his uptempo style will fit into Georgetown’s Princeton offense, but the junior believes his game will simply give the Hoyas another option in their attack. “I know everybody says Georgetown plays slow, but they get up and down sometimes and the coaches tell me I’ll be able to make open shots like I have and be a playmaker,” said Campbell, who also is a solid on-ball defender. “I can play fast and slow, and I feel that I can make an impact there.”

Welcome Tre! Congratulations to you and your family! It sounds as though Georgetown is his dream school and has been for quite some time. Great that it worked out for him (and us). Best of luck to the newest Hoya.

We all know that the idea the gtown plays "slow" is stupid. They limit possessions but the players themselves move all the time and are fast. So maybe players like Tre who are known to be "fast" will change the perception that many have of gtown. I like the direction this commit is is.

Josh Smith is not going to be around in 2014-15 as he only has one semester of eligibility left.

Josh Smith is not going to be around in 2014-15 as he only has one semester of eligibility left. I think that's incorrect. Smith played 2.5 seasons at UCLA: www.uclabruins.com/sports/m-baskbl/mtt/smith_joshua00.html...so he should have second semester of 2013-14 and the full year of 2014-15 eligibility at Georgetown.

I have not seen Tre play, but if he can shoot the "tre", then he can be the one. I like the comparison to Iverson.

Tre is a good player but there are definitely some things he needs to continue to work on before getting to the hilltop. With that said I am glad to have him and look forward to his arrival

Gladly, I stand corrected. I thought we only had him for next year. Nikita Mescheriakov basically did the same thing when he left Georgetown. His transfer was announced on December 22, 2009 (he had played in 7 games for Georgetown up to that point), and then he transferred to Wake Forest and did not play for two semesters. Nikita first played for Wake Forest on December 12, 2010. This seems early, but I checked Wake Forest's academic calendar, and exams did end on December 11 that year. Mescheriakov then played the spring 2011 semester, and 2011-2012. Similarly, Smith will gain eligibility December 19, 2012 (when Georgetown's exams are over). Anyway, I don't mean to hijack Tre Campbell's thread. I think he'll be a solid addition to the team, and John Thompson III is slowly putting together a team that seems like it will be quite nice for the next few years.

I've watched the Youtube compilation - he seems like he has a good midrange and outside game, and decent handle. How is his defense?

Not impressed. The kid wasn't the best player on his HS team. Romelo Trimble ran circles around him in WCAC league play. We'll see said the blind man. I mean i'm not the biggest fan either (I havent seen much of him though), but he was 1st team All-WCAC so who cares how Trimble played against him. You cant just pick and choose one game as evidence. Tre dropped 22 on Trimble in their first meeting, didnt play as well in the second, and played average in the thirs meeting. A few years ago Trimble was considered a better prospect than Jason and Marshall, but some kids are early bloomers and some are late bloomers. Tre competes and thats all that matters in amateur sports.
