6'1", 165 pound combo guard from St. John's College High School in DC recently visited according to Rivals. Unranked kid who plays AAU for Team Takeover.

Dave Telep @davetelep Tre Campbell reminds me a little of Cincinnati's Cashmere Wright. Shaka Smart here to see him today for VCU
The Same Intensity @sameintensity No question when it's all said and done that Tre Campbell is a high-major guard. Relentless on both ends.
The Same Intensity @sameintensity Tre Campbell and Dion Wiley are playing as advertised so far at the NHSHF on the offensive end, Wiley is a mixed bag defensively.

four ships for '14...Campbell, Copeland, Looney, Wiley? That would be amazing Id… Although if we got Copeland, Wiley, and Looney you could throw Barney Rubble in as the 4th guy and I would still be happy as chit... marylandhoops.net/?p=2052Tre Campbell, PG, St. John’s, 2014: A play sequence of 30 seconds was about all that was needed to sum up Campbell’s potential. In the first half, Campbell (6-1) hit a three and then came back on the other end to sky for an impressive rebound. Immediately looking to push it up court, Campbell showed off his speed and vision by making a nice dime for an easy lay-up back on the offensive end. That was about all Campbell needed to do in this blowout. He helped St. John’s jump out to a big early lead and then took a backseat and let his teammates go to work. He still ended up as the team’s high scorer with 12 points in a very balanced attack. With great length and an excellent workrate, Campbell should continue to see the mid-major plus and high-major offers roll in.

I think we need to aggressively go after more guards. Campbell would be huge.

www.nationalrecruitingspotlight.com/2012/12/16/dmv-tip-off-classic-evaluations-recap-statistics-recruiting-notes/MVP Tre Campbell | Class of 2014 | Point Guard | 6’2 | 170 Campbell had the best scoring performance of the day with his 26-point outburst against class of 2013 point guard Roddy Peters (Maryland) and a tough Suitland squad. The game MVP was quick with the ball and displayed a smooth stroke. He lit it up from beyond the arc and was deadly with his three-point stroke. Campbell led his team to victory and was one of the most impressive players on the offensive end in the six-game event. What he had to say: “It was good; it was really good. We had to work hard the whole week. We just wanted to play as a team. Coming off of a victory last night, we just had to come out here and compete. It was all my teammates tonight; they set me up for all of my shots. And my recruitment has been good. I got Penn State, St. Joe’s, VCU, Miami and Georgetown after me. St. Joe’s and VCU offered.”

I've not seen him play so I'll ask--could he be III's "Trey Burke"--i.e. the kid who comes in and changes how the perception of the program is regarding the PG position? That's what it's going to take for things to change-a guy who is a great player to be undervalued and signs with Hoyas and has ability to go to NBA in short time. I don't mind if he's just a damn good player who is a solid contributor for 4 years at all-but just saying for the overall program, they need the Trey Burke situation to happen to help with point guard recruits.

Good question. I like Campbell a lot and mainly due to his approach to the game. He competes on both ends and you'll never have to question his effort. However, in regards to his game, he reminds me more of Jason Clark than a point guard in the mold of Burke. However, if he does continue to get stronger and continues to work on his ballhandling, then he's definitely somebody I'd love to add to the team.

Not going to end up being a Georgetown offer.
He's one of these local kids that we evaluate in order to do our due diligence and show love to because we need to have a presence, but in the end won't be a kid we seriously pursue.

What do you think of his game POD? Too small. Good shooter, not a sniper. Not long or a defender like Clark. Don't want.

How come the staff isn't pushing harder for this kid? Seems like a good fit, he's local & he's a combo type. He was named 1st team all WCAC this season, he's also been added to Scout's top 100(88) insider.espn.go.com/blog/ncbrecruiting/national/post/_/id/4844/tre-campbell-getting-mid-major-looksThe 6-foot-1 point guard shot the ball extremely well, connecting on 7-of-9 from 3-point range and finishing with 28 points to lead his squad to a 65-64 win over Suitland. A number of high major programs have also taken notice of Campbell’s high level of play on the court. When you watch Campbell compete its easy to see why programs are lining up for his services. He plays the point but makes an impact scoring like a shooting guard. He displayed a quick and confident trigger and also did a nice job penetrating and kicking to open teammates – often finding 6-foot-4 junior wing James Palmer.

I've changed my mind, and would be fine seeing us take him. He can create a little.

we haven't a true pg since jonathan wallace. i am kinda done with the 6'0 - 1 combo pgs that do not lead us far into post season.
