There is nothing but upside in this transfer. If he gets his redshirt and is immediately eligible, we have a 20 year old man coming in with 2 years of high major practice under his belt.
If he has to sit first semester, same deal two months later. He will be physically more mature than a HS recruit and ready to be a physical presence.
I see nothing hit good news in this development.

To be fair though unlike Pitino with Agua, Crean didn't want Fischer to leave Indiana.. This is Crean's quote on it.. “Luke has decided to withdraw from Indiana and pursue another educational and basketball opportunity,” Indiana coach Tom Crean said in the release. “He explained to us he is looking for a different fit for him. We hate to see a fine young man like Luke leave, but he has made his decision and we wish the entire Fischer family well."
“It is what it is, and you wish him the best,” Crean said. “We’ll miss his potential. We’ll miss him as a person. He did an outstanding job here, academically. He’s an outstanding young man. And we move right on. The team moves right on, practice moves right on, and we just go. Here's Pitino's take on Agua.. "I sat down with Akoy and we agreed that it is in the best interest of his future to transfer to another university where playing time will be more readily available," Pitino said in the same release. "I'm very fond of Akoy as a person. He exemplifies all that we want in a Louisville man. We wish him nothing but good fortune going forward."The two transfers aren't the same at all imo.. I can't say it enough that I have no problems with Agua coming to G'town and he definitely will fill a need especially if he wants to play the 5 spot.. I've kept up with this thread a lot and I don't remember reading one post saying the staff should pass on Agua.. Are some of us more reserved in what we expect him to be right away at G'town then others, yes but that doesn't mean we're upset that he's coming.. Fwiw I read this L'ville write up on him where it mentioned he was suspended last year for a "minor attitude" issue. Reading that makes me think he may have been dumped in the doghouse last season, couple that with off-season surgery this summer probably caused him to fall further behind there.. www.gocards.com/sports/m-baskbl/mtt/akoy_agau_862090.htmlEither way I hope he turns into an AA while leading the squad back to a final four.. Nothing personal but you have to be careful when taking those kind of quotes at face value. Ok Rock

zagsblog.com/articles/louisville-transfer-akoy-agau-to-georgetown/“Yes, I committed to Georgetown,” Agau told SNY.tv. “I felt like with the history they had with big men my size and with my skill set, they had been very successful. I felt like I could potentially fall in that path. “Also if I’m unfortunate enough to not play basketball after college, I feel my degree from here can go a long ways.” The 6-foot-8 Agau averaged 0.9 points and 1.1 rebounds in three games this season. “This has been a great opportunity for me,” Agau said upon his departure from Louisville. “I want to thank Coach Pitino and the entire staff. I learned a lot in the two years I have been here and built a great connection with everyone. Everyone in this program is part of my family and it is sad to leave, but this is the best decision for me. I’m always going to be a part of the Louisville family.

www.neprepzone.com/sports/agau-s-aau-coach-georgetown-a-good-fit/article_7c2032a9-98e9-5f55-ac51-39668ed8ba32.htmlThe fact that Coach John Thompson III is more established than the new staff at Marquette played a role in Agau’s decision. “It was a tough choice for him to pick between the two,” Hammer said. Agau will have to sit out the rest of this year and the first semester of next season. He plans to take a heavier academic load this spring and will use the time to completely recover from surgery for a sports hernia.Georgetown coaches haven’t said much about how they’ll use him, but they will be losing four seniors after this season, two at the forward position. Agau played in 19 games as a freshman at Louisville and averaged 0.9 points and 1.1 rebounds. As a sophomore this fall, he played in three contests. Agau left for Georgetown on Friday and was unavailable for comment.

Exactly. And somebody brought up the Luke Fischer example. He got injured in preseason, fell behind and got very few minutes on a far worse team than Louisville. And the very next year at a new program, he ain't too shabby. It pretty much boils down to playing time. Louisville brought in 1 4 star power forward and 3 centers (2 4 stars and 1 3 star) this year and will bring in another 4 star power forward next year. It's easy to see the writing was on the wall and it would be hard to get playing time. For next year at least he has a much better chance at playing time on the Hoyas given that Hopkins and Smith are graduating.

Hello Hoya fans. Have been lurking in this particular forum for over a week now. Having known Akoy for an extended period of time I am hopeful that everyone embraces this young man and gives him the opportunity to prove himself before passing judgment. He is one of the most kind hearted and sincere young men you will ever meet. FWIW, Akoy and my family refer to our relationship as "adapted family", so Yes, we are relatively close.
Where he fits within the Hoya basketball team will be interesting to watch develop from my viewpoint. Before his sports hernia injury last summer he was slated to be in a rotation at the 3/4 positions with Blackshear, Montrez, and himself. Obviously the injury was devastating to Akoy. Myself, I would refer to Akoy as a stretch 4. I will tell you this though, the kid learned how to man up on the basketball court as Akoy and Harrell guarded each other every day in practice. We were allowed to set in on practices when we visited Louisville for games.
He was on campus Saturday meeting with university officials getting classes set up. And hopefully the University will be able to get that medical redshirt so Hoya nation can enjoy this young man for 3 years.
I'll be checking in every so often so we'll be seein' ya. Cant wait to come to some Hoya home games.

There's a couple of grumps around but I don't see any real downside for either Akoy or the Hoyas. I'm glad to have him as a Hoya.

And you've only been here about a week but you'll come to notice that you shouldn't take what people on here say too seriously. Sure we have a group of smart and knowledgable fans, but emotions tend to cloud our judgment far more often than it should or you are probably accustomed to (assuming you're a regular person). Basically this board could is a candy shop for psychiatrists. Other than that, let's keep our fingers crossed for that medical redshirt, I have a good feeling about it.

Not sure which brother you are referring to. Magay is a senior at Omaha Central and Aguir is a sophomore at Creighton Prep. Magay needs to go to college prep school more than likely to get grades in order if he wants to play basketball. Aguir is tearing it up at Prep and will have no academic issues just as Akoy.

Husker, did he come back a little too early from that hernia surgery perhaps?

The first thing I noticed from those two pics of him in the suit is how long his arms are. I think those long arms and good athleticism can make it possible for him to hold his own playing a little bit at the 5. I still think the 4 is his best position though.
