So, we shouldn't be upset because we should have had less expectation? That's not the point of the discussion. The point is that we got invited to a marquee event and we couldnt find a way to make it happen, and not only that, we didnt provide any public explanation as to why we couldnt make it happen. Thus, the criticism of the Athletic Department.

Thus, the criticism of the Athletic Department. I guess I'm of the school of thought that they do not owe us an explanation. I’m sure the majority of people don’t even know this happened. It’s only an issue in our little internet community of CasualHoya and HoyaTalk. Syracuse has a PR issue with all the crap that happened up there. This is not a Public Relations issue. I think it’ nothing, but if it’s anything it’s a private relations issue. Sure i suppose they could send hoop club members an email explaining what happened, but it’d seem a little silly to me. Hey you know that game that you thought was happening that we never agreed to but you assumed we were playing in because of the headline of an article? Well we’re not playing in that because of ______*. Sorry you got your hopes up, even though I told you not to when asked about the game. *________ most likely being that awesome legends classic thing we did agree to and announced to you guys.

In what way is it silly? I am an alumnus of the school. I pay a lot of money for season tickets, among other monies I spend to my alma mater, so yes, I would like to be kept informed on public relations matters. I am not saying I hate Georgetown forever, I just think it was a blunder. This takes on a lot more import, as others have noted, because i am being asked to commit to $500-1000 of season tickets by April 15. I would like to know why we would be giving up this game. I hope it is not because we have to play Towson at the Verizon Center on November 9.

And exactly how would a game on an aircraft carrier in San Diego in November have impacted your season tickets? Just curious.

I hope it is not because we have to play Towson at the Verizon Center on November 9. I'm sorry but I'm also with HSB. With how our Atheltic Department works its a miracle we ever even heard about this. Oh wait, it was the SD Tribune that announced G-town as a potential team, the Reed just came out saying it probably couldn't happen. When was the last time that we have been informed of ANY scheduling. Usually here on HT we piece together the schedule from other teams announcing ours until well after majority of programs have released. Hoya Paranoia has never left this program, just instead of a paranoia of the opposing players on the court it has turned into alumni paranoia. Just because something doesn't happen doesn't mean it went wrong, are you trying to tell me you have never had to decline or cancel an invitation because of a conflict? Finally, if JTIII thinks we need to play Towson as a warm up to give us a better chance to win the Legends Classic then I trust him. If he thinks that a first game with infinite sight lines and weird bounce on the court would be bad for a young team needing confidence, I trust him. Quick question: I'm assuming they do but does the Athletic Department have their own PR department or does the Georgetown PR department have an athletic liaison.

Let's give Reed a break here. Not only was his original statement full of disclaimers, but if you look at the original article, it lists the game's date as "probably the 9th", so according to the report the game date was not even firmly set at the time of the invite. Plus, our commitment to the Legends requires us to host 2 games. We don't even know when the VC will be available until the NBA and NHL schedules come out, so how can we have those 2 games scheduled already and even know which dates we have to work around?

As is always the case, every single problem Georgetown basketball experiences can be traced back to mother******g FACILITIES!!;D Wait, scratch that. I'm not joking at all.

If the university is willing to say that there is a conflict which precludes us from playing in high profile game, why wont they tell potential season ticket holders and alumni what that conflict is?

big game nationally; Decisions like this do not aid in being a top tier team.

If the university is willing to say that there is a conflict which precludes us from playing in high profile game, why wont they tell potential season ticket holders and alumni what that conflict is? 1. One potential conflict has already been mentioned (the Legends Classic games). 2. We'll have to agree to disagree, but I see no need for a press release about reasons for not participating in a game where the only previous public comment by the AD was one that indicated no commitment to participate and hinted at potential scheduling difficulties in the first place. As a season ticket holder as well, this specific issue has no impact on my decision whether or not to renew my seats.

If anything the story getting leaked is the issue before anything was confirmed is the issue.

Obviously we need to scratch ATF plans and just park an aircraft carrier outside of the future boathouse ;D

Should he be? We could better use that slot on Biggie McClain.

The aircraft carrier game would have been interesting -- the announcers say "he can't put in the ocean", then one of the players actually does it.
Seriously, I think it's a gimmick that's already lost its shine (although I did enjoy seeing a very bored-looking Michelle Obama last time).

I heard Georgetown was going to hold Midnight Madness inside a retired space shuttle that is being hauled away by a 747.
Take that Syracuse.
