Belmont is living off playing Duke close in the first game of the season. Memphis proceeded to crush them, and who cares that they scored 100 points against Stetson and Kennesaw St. Let's kick their butt.

They've been clearly outplayed in games against KenPom Top 100 teams. Granted it was the first game of the season, but Belmont lost to Duke 77-76.

This is a great draw....I understand the angst due to previous year's losses, but this team (Belmont) lost to Lipscomb at home. We are in fine shape.

I don't like our bracket at all. Belmont is tough, and so is NC State. I think the 4 seed has a better draw than we do.
OTOH, if you're good, you gotta prove it. This is our chance.

I'm in the boat that considers Belmont very dangerous. Lost to Duke at Cameron by 1 point. In fact, 3 of their 7 losses were losses by just 1 point. They are tough....no two ways about it.

Much rather have a scary first round opponent. Hope that the Hoyas are totally focused this week.

It's the tournament. Most teams will be tough. I like the draw.

Based on efficiency margins against the Top 100, we're about a 77% 64% favorite. EDIT: Gah, spreadsheet error. About a 59% favorite by total KenPom numbers and a 63% favorite by Top 100 KenPom numbers.

I sure hope the team has more confidence in their abilities than this board. You know: Henry, Otto, Jason, Hollis, Whit et all. Reverse Hoya paranoia......

I was surprised with a 3 seed, especially with Vandy and FSU winning.

Belmont's profile has many indicators of an upset team: They have won more than 10 in a row coming in to the tournament (14), they rely on the 3, and they are experience and work together (they are 5th in assists per game).
They also have balance scoring: 4 guys in double figures, and a fifth with 9.8. The key will be to limit 3s, and getting the ball inside. They have on guy over 6-7 who gets significant minutes, but he is 6-11 and avg. over 10pts a game.

I like the first round matchup a lot. Belmont shoots a lot of threes (39.9% of their shots or 40th out of 345 Division 1 teams) and makes a lot of threes (38.1% or 30th in the country).
The Hoyas are the #1 team in NCAA 3 point defense (26.1%).

Obviously we on this board have the jitters because of the last few years, but we should beat this team. Keep guys in front of us on defense, dont leave the 3pt shooters open, pound the ball in to Hank and Otto.
Hoyas by 15.

Good news - at the very least, you can enjoy the first day of the tournament before deciding sports are stupid. Couldn't have said it better. Last year was brutal. Edit: We played on Friday night last year. I misremembered.

As long as we don't get blown out again. I'd like to still be in the game at halftime.

After the last three years, the team has to take all first round opponents seriously. There are no walkovers. Let's get this done.
