Just saw the replay. Henry had some of the most beautiful assists I have recently seen. The seniors really went out in style in their last home game.

Other than about 3 too many 17 foot jumpers, Henry's play was stellar tonight.
Clark was steady as usual. Terrific senior season. You will be missed.
Otto, baby. That 12 foot jumper could propel us deep in the tourney. Keep practicing it every day. A lot. It's going to be wide open with Jason, Hollis, and Greg sitting on the wings commanding attention by perimeter defenders.
Not to get too far ahead of myself, but the emergence of Otto as a playmaker at the free throw line in the middle of the zone is one of the key ways to take out Cuse. I personally think Hollis should spend time in there as well. I bet he would do well shooting that jumper or looking for the open man.

Hollis' midrange shot (or free throws) I don't have much confidence in. From 3pt and beyond he's deadly but he misses way too many from midrange for some reason.

Sorry. It's just true. There's a reason that, despite the adage that defense wins championships, teams with better Os then Ds do better in the toruney that similarly biased teams towards defense. Eventually a game like Seton Hall comes along and you've got to be able to score with a team on fire. I just don't see us holding ND to 40. I could be wrong, but they had that terrible game Saturday. We're not that lucky. I guess you were right ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png)

great effort defensively and on the glass. henry made some sweet passes to cutters (please bag the 18 ft jumper henry). good effort from starks. i found it funny how he was busting a$$ all night, including sprinting from the bench to the scorers table. message delivered by III and received by starks.

Fantastic game and win! The seniors definitely have a lot to be proud of, but their job is far from done. Let's bottle this defensive performance/overall effort and keep it going through March. GREAT job all around!!

In the kenpom article about opponent 3 Pt shooting he stated that while there wasn't a lot you could Do about %, you could force fewer attempts. And that is exactly what the hoyas did. Only 17 attempts today compared to 41 against st. John's. And they only made 3 all game.
For a team that doesn't take advantage of miss matches we sure did a fair bit of that having Hollis post up grant.

Catch and shoot from three versus the pull up mid range. He tends to rush it when he's coming off the dribble IMO. On his threes he really elevates and gets a clean look.

Got lucky and scored floor seats across from benches for second half. It was great to see the interactions between III and Markel. Lots of subtle high fives, back slaps and smiles. Markel clearly got the message and Coach clearly appreciates his response/attitude. Also, seeing the team's intensity up close was a real treat ... They came out tonight with something to prove. My favorite game in several years!

True, but I think the team's defense last night did show that you can affect percentage. The 3s that ND did take were tough shots (for the most part).

If Henry can play that way for the next few weeks it helps the offense tremendously. With a threat in the low post, the sots will open again for the outside shooters. Add to that the increasing effectiveness of GW and it could reall improve the flow of the offense.

Can't say enough about a lot of things last night at the game. Our defensive effort for 40 minutes. The crowd saluting our seniors, who both played tremendous games and went out in style. I know I've mentioned in the past the day I think Roy Hibbert realized he was really good at basketball (Ohio St., 2006). I'm wondering if we'll look back years from now and call yesterday's game the day Greg Whittington realized he can be an absolute force if he has the self-confidence to be one. I certainly hope so.
I loved the way we closed out on their perimeter shooters last night. Didn't see a lot of reckless fly-bys and people going for pump fakes like they usually do. Also didn't see anyone foul a jump shooter (which has happened a lot this year). That was a tremendous improvement last night by our team that shouldn't go unnoticed.
Hard to nitpick after a win like last night and especially since he had such a strong game overall, but Henry: please stop hesitating at the foul line and allowing defenders to recover before taking the 15-17 footer. Just go up with it and be confident that you can knock it down!
The students overall were really disappointing this year, but I'm really hoping that the results of the last two games have gotten the point across to them that the energy they feed to the team and the rest of the crowd directly and positively impacts the performance of our team. This should be a stepping stone towards what should be a much better year next year for them in terms of attendance and engagement at games. Good job yesterday by everyone who was in attendance.
Lastly, we bash them (and rightly so) for a lot of games this year, but I thought the officiating crew did a really good job last night. They let the players decide the outcome without losing control of the game. And for one night, not having to see Burr/Hess/Cahill/Hightower was a huge plus and made for a much more watchable game.

A week ago we had a game where not a single player had a solid game. Last night we had a game where every single player had a solid game. The ups and downs of a season are amazing. While Gottlieb on College basketball Live spent more time denigrating Notre Dame's defense on our cuts and backdoors than he did praising the Hoyas, he did state that we, and possibly marquette, are the only teams that could beat Syracuse next week.

Okay, we've passed the test, i.e. we've shown that we can handle the kind of 3 point shooting team that killed us in past NCAA tourneys. Forget Marquette and the BET, what happens happens. We are now NCAA tourney ready! Like I predicted in another thread last week, we go to the elite eight and probably lose a heartbreaker in the regional final. But that sets us up for a national championship run next year. Also, forget the talk about the Starks-JTIII squabble. Unfortunately for Starks the squabble and subsequent benching proved we are better without him (or at least in a very limited role) and what you saw last night is probably the role Starks will play as long as he stays at GU.

NCAA upsets almost always result from lack of defensive intensity. We have lost our focus on D on occasion this year, but I absolutely do not see that happening from here on in given the importance of each game.

I thought we played well and it seemed like we could beat anybody. But, little did I realize that by advanced metrics we played like the #1 team in the country for the third time this year according to the charts on Hoya Prospectus. By comparison, Syracuse has only played like the #1 four times this year and only once in BE play (this was our second time; USF). In fact, in the BE only Marquette has played as the #1 team at any point this year but none were in BE play. Just shows that we have all the talent in the world, but our biggest problem is simply consistency. We basically play 2/3 of our games as a top 15 team but a relatively high number as a 20 to 50 team and a couple of games closer to the 100 mark. Syracuse has played only one game below #20 and that was their loss to ND where they played at the level of the #30 team. Simply put, we can in fact play with anyone and we often do, but doing so only 2 out of every 3 games could, with luck, lead to a deep run or an early exit. Here's hoping the upperclassmen step up and bring some greater consistency than we've seen for most of the year.
