What do you think?
How can the NIT people pass up a first round Maryland-Hoya matchup?

They are trying to set SC-Clemson up for later on so that might be a precedent for how they want to handle rivals or geographically close schools.

According to the Maryland website they cannot play second round home game due to the women's tourney. It would have to be in the 1st or 3rd round.

Clemson has a conflict for some dates first round and second round is mainly during spring break I think.
I'll try to find some more details on other schools in the East and their bids. That NIT-ology someone linked to earlier had a Davidson rematch for GU in the first round.

The gate for Maryland - Hoyas would be huge - that's why I think they (NIT selection committee) will give it serious consideration to make SURE they get that game.
Indiana would be an interesting matchup later on.

I would like to see a first round game against Maryland, then Notre Dame or Indiana later on.

Indiana would be an interesting matchup later on. I could possibly make a 2nd round game at MCI or Comcast or anywhere else in that area - I could try to change my flight on the 18th if the first round game were sooner than that. Otherwise I'll probably just be going to a midweek first round game down here in Clemson possibly.

I'd like to see the Hoyas play somewhere near SC if they don't play up here, to possibly see that game, and USC-Clemson. That would be nice as a future Gamecock grad and a Hoya fan.

As long as the result is the same from the last games I have no problem with it. It would be wild for GU to play both major SC schools in the same season in tournaments. It would be a lot easier for me as a Clemson fan than another GU-Clemson game.

Yeah I would enjoy seeing the Hoyas beat both SC teams in the same post-season as well. Especially Clemson, but when it comes to G-Town and USC I will always side with the Hoyas.

The way South Carolina finished the season I don't think you'd have to worry about that. If Clemson and South Carolina could have put a whole season together instead of just half of one they'd both have been announced already for NCAA bids.

Absolutely. After the Kentucky win there was hope for USC, but they folded and lost to EVERYONE. Not much hope for next year either.

I almost went yesterday to the one in Clemson but I had it on TV up here on CSS. I predict a draw in the season series after the next 2.

Nah, Im up near DC now, but I'll be heading down there this fall. I listened to the game a little, I wouldn't be too optimistic about a split, USC looks real tough this year. Clemson played them well today though.

Clemson played them well today though. Just a gut feeling. Clemson hasn't played well early the past 2-3 years. Some of that was overrecruiting (i.e. losing people to the draft) and some of it's the schedule. Every year the papers do a compare and contrast between Clemson and SC's scheduling philosophies for non-conference games. To keep this nominally on topic (no more on this subject here I promise) , SC plays a non-con. baseball schedule similar to the one GU used to play in hoops.

How about playing someone like St. Joes or rematch with Temple in the A-10 for a first round warmup in Philly?

George Mason might be a local first rounder too. They are in a weak conference but have been invited to the NIT before. They finished this year a little worse then usual at 16-13. but the plus is that they have a good home court that probably would be avalible.

Yea, I dont want to turn this into a SC-Clemson page either. Very true that USC plays a weak non-conference tilt as seen in Niagara, Longwood etc. We'll see in the very near future if they deserve their #4 ranking. This weekend was a very good start. Back to the Hoyas though. I was thinking a game against a Philadelphia team would be okay too. I could travel to that easily and would be interesting against St. Joe's or Temple.
