Pitt beat Providence tonight so they are now 1-7 and maybe that is better than being completely desperate at 0-8. Gibbs went for 22 and looks like he is getting his touch back.

Long time lurker of the board and just wanted to introduce myself. For some odd reason my profile kept getting denied but alas the gods have shown favor to me and voila here I am… Pitt is a much better team when Woodall is playing but they are extremely small, and Gibbs who is dangerous because of his shooting really has no blow by ability.. Run him off the three point line, make him put it on the floor and he will struggle. Over half of his FG attempts this year are from three (148 attempts from 3, 147 from 2) . Also they only play 2 guys over 6’5 Taylor and Zanna and neither one is what I would call an intimidating inside presence. We need to destroy these guys on the glass and it would be oh so satisfying if we destroyed these traitors in their place.. Co sign everything any posters said about their hatred for PITT. Can’t stand these guys.. Lastly LicHoya this is for you, hope you enjoy and make sure your sitting down before you click this link ![O_o](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/browraise.png) lol…. www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2091068/Mamadou-Ndiaye-7ft-5in-basketball-player-believed-tallest-US.html?ito=feeds-newsxml Go Hoyas!

Welcome to the board. Nice opening post.
Also, Taylor may not be 100% for this game also which could help.
This was a game I thought we would lose to start the season. Now, I would be very disappointed to lose. Although I must say that we haven't played all that well for the past 5 games, at least not Top 10 level whatever that is. If we don't man up, a loss at Pitt is certainly a possibility.
Getting to 7-2 with a win at Pitt sets us up nicely heading into the back half and more difficult portion of the conference regular season.
On the plus side, I am more convinced that Hollis is not going to be drafted in a spot that makes it a no brainer for him to forego his Senior season. I think the chances he comes back is at least 50/50.

Pitt hates pretty much everyone except their own. But the image of Georgetown especially irks them, no doubt. Fortunately, we don't care. (Yes, "we" as in the aggregate group of us, not implying that I went to GU)

At the beginning of the season, I like Ranch did not circle this game as a probable win for the Hoyas. Now with the mediocre play of Pitt and the good play of the young Hoyas, I am hopeful of a Hoya victory on the road, but would not be overly surprised if they lost. Pitt is still a desperate team needing a win against a top tier team for possible invitation to NCAA. They know and their crowd knows how big this game is for them. They will play like it is the championship game of the BE. If the Hoyas play sound defense for two halves, play efficient offense(driving to basket if back door cut is no there) and cut down on turnovers and the still lose then I would not be happy about the loss, but I would not be dissapointed with the team's loss. Because of their crowd and Dixon's whinning the Refs will swallow their whistles on many of the holding and hacking fouls Pitt players will commit, so the players will have to ply through that and still execute. This team especially the yung'uns have given this old fan a lot of things to be excited about the future. Right now they are playing on "house money" and each win on the road adds to that tally. I know there will be times that I too will get caught up in the emotions of a tough loss on the road and post a complaint about certain players play, but that's the irrational province of a FAN. This will be a tough game regardless of Pitt's record so far, so let's go young Hoyas play your best and regardless of the outcome, know the true test is whether your individual game and team game improved from your last game. Let's go Markel and Hollis.

I hear you, but I think Pitt is past the point of desperation, no? They would pretty much have a better shot of running the table in the BET than making it with a turn around in the regular season.

Dixon is a very good motivator and I am sure he has all the Pitt players believing that the NCAAs are still within reach and thus will play each of their remaining games like it is their last. They will be ready to battle this weekend and we best be ready to play.
Sims needs to convert some buckets this weekend.

That's why we need to come out with fire, shut them down early, blanket Gibbs and destroy their spirit.

Georgetown will be wearing Pink shoes at Pittsburgh in honor of coaches vs. Cancer. Apparently the Hoyas have 3 different options of pink shoes to wear. twitter.com/#!/GeorgetownHoops/status/162203609931579392/photo/1 twitter.com/#!/GeorgetownHoops/status/161858634945531905/photo/1 There's some Gray in there too which is good. Also now we have an excuse if the unthinkable were to occur ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png)

Jan. 26, 2012 5:48 p.m. - by Elliott Smith - F Thompson fights groin injury Junior F Hollis Thompson missed two practices earlier in the week with a groin injury that limited his minutes against Rutgers, but he planned to practice Thursday in preparation for Saturday’s game against Pittsburgh. “I’ve been working with the training staff and I’m good now,” he said.
Jan. 26, 2012 5:50 p.m. - by Elliott Smith - Lubick: Week of Pitt prep 'weird' The Hoyas will not have played in a week when Saturday’s game against Pitt arrives, a rare stretch during conference play. “It was little bit weird having a whole week to think about one team, but it did come at the right time,” F Nate Lubick said.
56 minutes ago - by Elliott Smith - Clark: Offense not an issue Despite shooting 29.3 percent in a win over Rutgers, senior G Jason Clark said the offense isn’t an area of concern going forward. “We got all the shots we wanted -- they just weren’t falling,” he said. “I don’t think we do anything different.”
53 minutes ago - by Elliott Smith - Clark likely to get tough assignment vs. Gibbs Senior G Jason Clark likely will square off against Pittsburgh G Ashton Gibbs, and Clark is looking forward to the matchup. “They run a lot of stuff for Ashton off screens and flares, so if that’s who I’m guarding, I’m going to be chasing him,” Clark said.
52 minutes ago - by Elliott Smith - Thompson: Panthers a dangerous foe Coach John Thompson III isn't fooled by Pittsburgh’s 1-7 Big East record. “Pittsburgh is significantly better than if you look at the standings, and they’re a different team with [Tray] Woodall back,” he said. “They’re the same team that was picked [fourth] in the league.”
39 minutes ago - by Elliott Smith - Hoyas need to limit opportunities Coach John Thompson III said the Hoyas need to keep Pittsburgh, who ranks third in the conference in rebounding, off the glass. “We have to try to limit their second shots,” he said. “The formula for us has been the same -- if we can defend and rebound, that’s what’s key.”
38 minutes ago - by Elliott Smith - G Starks going through ups and downs G Markel Starks has been hampered over the past six games by injury, ineffectiveness and foul trouble, but coach John Thompson III said that is expected. “During the course of the year, you’re going to have ups and downs,” he said. “We’re fine with where Markel is.”
37 minutes ago - by Elliott Smith - Clark: Pitt crowd 'disrespectful' G Jason Clark said Pitt’s Petersen Events Center is a raucous environment for visitors, having played and won there as a sophomore. “Their fans were really disrespectful,” he said. “They might have been the worst [in the Big East]. That’s cool, though.”

Well, I agree that they did shoot and miss a lot of 3pt shots and Henry did miss a lot of shots at the basket, but I could not tell from the radio if the 3pt shots were open or contested or that Henry's shots were bunnys or contested. If the 3pt shots were contested then a beter option would have been to drive past defender. If Henry's shots were missed bunny's, then Henry has to make the next step. He has gone from being too unsure to take a shot, to taking 10-12 ft shots and making his share. He has gone from being too unsure about when to pass and who to pass to, to being one of the best passers in the game. He has gone from being an unsure dribbler, to a Big Man with some of the best moves in the game. The final step is finishing at the basket with strength. Its not enough to get there now Henry. We know that you can do that , now show us that you can finish. How about trying to dunk everything within 3 feet of the basket. If you get shot rejected or you fall on your rump by bouncing ball off the rim I promice not to criticize the miss.

Oldhoyafan makes a lot of good points about Henry's development. What is amazing is that it really occurred in the last 10 months. Not much time left in Henry's career for further improvement but you never know.

Simms problems come with his back to the basket. I actually have more confidence in his face-up jumper from 10-12 feet, than I do when he is attempting to post-up. I think he has to gain more strength in his hands. His defense is really pretty advanced and his rebounding not as strong as he needs to be if he wants to play after this year. He is actually closer to the next level than ever thought possible.
