Count me worried about Gardner. I remember him scoring a bunch against us last year, and particularly Henry. Henry may have problems dealing with that kid's weight on the defensive end, though he should be in good shape on the boards and using his speed on the offensive end. Oh is that the fat kid. Didn't providence or villanova have a 300 lbs fat kid last year too.

If you take the Pomeroy probabilites (not that they are bible, but they are the easiest decent prediction engine out there), and classify anything at 75% (or 25%) likelihood as a should win (or lose), you end up with these "swing games" left:
Marquette (H&A) WVU (A) Pitt (A) UConn (H) SHU (A)
We're favored in all but one of those, but given the chances, we're likely to come out 4-2 according to Pomeroy now.
Two of em are back to back right now. Then we get four less hard games (there are no easy games) so this is a real stretch of opportunity to make a statement in the BE.
(Louisville was one of these as well. Also note that leaves 9 games as likely wins or losses, but since 8 of those are likely wins and only one is a likely loss, the reality is we're more likely to come out of those 7-2 than the 8-1 predicted right now).
Right now he has us coming out with frighteningly good 14-4. I can only hope this team is actually that good.

So we could field the jumbo line up (Sims, Porter, Hollis, Whittington, and Starks/Clark/Trawick) and they could be in trouble. Honestly it seems as if this is applicable to nearly every team we play. More length and height the better.

(I am including Jeremy Lamb's extremely long arms in the calculation. It's really too bad that Tyler Adams and Moses are out because we really could have used those two against Cuse and UConn. To me those two teams in the reg season and BET are the true test. We should be able to hang and beat all the other teams in the Big East but those two are on another level.

Looking at the roster, UConn really doesn't seem to be much bigger than us. UConn regularly plays... 1. DeAndre Daniels at 6-8 2. Jeremy Lamb at 6-5 3. Tyler Olander at 6-9 4. Andre Drummond at 6-11 (Ok fine he's huge) 5. Roscoe Smith at 6-8 6. and Alex Oriakhi at 6-9. Is that really much bigger than 1. Jason Clark (Ok fine not big at 6-2, but long arms making up for it in the same way you claimed about Jeremy Lamb) 2. Greg Whittington at 6-9 3. Hollis Thompson at 6-8 4. Henry Sims at 6-10 5. Otto Porter at 6-8 6. Nate Lubick at 6-8 7. Jabril Trawick at 6-5 (Same height as Lamb) 8. and Mikael Hopkins is starting to player a few minutes more a game at 6-9. Looks to me like again our length/height is making the difference. We're just as big if not bigger than UConn.

I'm holding off on crowning Syracuse and UConn better than everyone else until I see them against better competition.
Syracuse still hasn't played a ranked team and won't until Marquette on Saturday. Uconn's best wins are Harvard and FL state. Oh and Fl State just lost their 5th game of the season to Princeton. They lost to UCF. They're no doubt talented, but that doesn't automatically make them a Great team.

If we end up 14 wins and 4 losses, I will be estatic.

We're just as big if not bigger than UConn. Clark has a 6-7 Wingspan. Jermey Lamb has a wingspan listed between 7-1 to 7-4. So even taking out Clark and putting a 6-8 Whittington or Hollis at guard they can match us there. More than that though is the mass and muscle which is what worries me. Orichi is a big boy at 6-9 240. He's like a bigger Lubick size wise. But then Drummond is 6-10 270 lbs. Sims is 6-10 245 lbs. He won't be able to keep Drummond from backing down or being a space eater in the paint. The best strategy is to use Lubick to doorstop Drummond and have Sims patrol the paint behind him. But this means that Lubick is really the key for that game. Porter's 6-8 205 so you really can't expect him to man up the UConn bigs. If we had Tyler Adams 6-10 270 and Moses 6-8 250 then it wouldn't be as big of a problem.

I was wondering where Otule had been. I think Henry can get his shot off against Gardner and then Crowder if he comes on the double. Hollis and Nate better be ready to feast as well. Otto is taller than their available players? Count 15 more BE rebounds for Otto-matic!!! ![8-)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/cool.png)

If we end up 14 wins and 4 losses, I will be estatic. Me, too. People are hyping UConn not on what they are now but what they will be if and when Andre Drummond is in full force. The guy seems to be LIKELY to be an NBA All-Pro -- not sure anyone else in the BE can say that -- and is quickly getting better. Lamb's a nice player if overrated at this point. But Drummond is the guy who can win a National Title. For all the defensive chops of an Anthony Davis, Drummond can effect the game on both ends of the floor and at that level. I'd consider us a National Title contender if we were starting Drummond. I think we'd be better with him than UConn is with him.

It's not a guarantee that Drummond puts it together before the end of the year though. And he'll be gone at the end of the year. It'll be interesting to see him go up against Herb Pope tonight. He's certainly not there yet. And if he keeps shooting 36% from the line I'd be sure to use Hopkins for 5 fouls in that game.

Drummond right now is limited to dunks and put backs. I think Henry can get him in foul trouble. He'll prolly need to.

Seton Hall's zone has kept Drummond and Oriaki completely ineffective on the offensive end in the first half. Neither has shown to be all that skilled away from the basket and UConn's guards haven't looked to get it inside to either of them. Drummond's only points are off a lob on a fast break I believe. I don't know whether it's Seton Hall's D or the UConn guards/wings forcing things but they're racking up the TOs.

I'm with Lic. Lets worry about beating Marquette right now. We can cross the UConn bridge when we get to it. (For what its worth though, I think Henry will be more than up to the challenge of battling Drummond when the time comes).
