With just one game left (Xavier game on Sunday) before Monday's rankings come out, we're ready for another installment of "who-cares" ranking predictions. Here's last week's AP rankings with results: espn.go.com/mens-college-basketball/rankings?poll=1I think we go from #16 up to #13. We're jumping #14 Xavier and #15 Pitt, and #12 Kansas will go down more than one spot after losing to Davidson.

Also, why 12/16 rankings? Rankings will come out 12/26. New rule: no new rankings threads until sunday night.

Oops, typo! Fixed. As for the proposed new rule, it would not apply when there are no Top 25 games scheduled for the 24th and 25th, other than Xavier tomorrow. Xavier lost this week, so they're going down the rankings anyway.

Yeah I think it's fine No more games that will affect the rankings. We'll at least be 14th when the new polls come out. We definitely jump Xavier and Pittsburgh. The question is how the Voters will treat Marquette(currently 10th) and Kansas (11th/12th). Kansas now has 3 loses to our 1, but our 1 was to Kansas. Marquette only has 1 loss now and it's much worse than our loss, but they have a win @wisconsin that is better than our wins. Frankly I think we should be ranked ahead of both base on results. I think our top 3 wins match up well with Marquette's: @ Wisconsin, Washington(N), Ole Miss(N) vs. @ Alabama, Memphis(N), Memphis. So we could be as high as 12th. A win @ Louisville and over Providence Vaults us into the top 10 for the 5th straight year.

It's pretty clear that Memphis is just not a good team. Whether Alabama ends up being good remains to be seen. I like our team, but we've played a very easy schedule.

I wouldn't say Memphis is a bad team. I think they'll end up being a bubble team by the end of the year, and the equivalent of a team between 10-12 in the Big East. But you're right, that's not the marquee win it initially looked like.

I think the same can be said about Alabama. That was a crushing loss for them.

Yikes, that seems a bit high, even for me who has continually claimed we will be a Top 5ish type team by February.
We will be able to prove to everyone this week whether we belong with a huge road test at Louisville and against a rising Providence program. 2-0 this week and we are Top 10. 1-1 and we probably don't slide much. 0-2 and the bloom from the rose is floating away...

As the saying goes you're never as good as you think you are and you're never as bad as you think you are. Overrated for now but it doesn't really matter in December.

Who beneath us, other than maybe Kansas, deserves to be ranked higher based on their body of work so far? This team has earned its ranking.

We are just getting credit for not losing as opposed to actually beating people.
