We got a little stagnant in the middle of the second half after stretching the lead out past 20 when they went zone but besides that stretch, I thought we played pretty well, forced TOs on defense, took good shots, attacked the glass, all in all, a pretty good game.

Markel continues to be a much better all around player than I expected. Great to see. Solid game, but lost our way after taking a very large lead against an opponent we expected more from. I think the guys were a little shocked at how poorly Memphis came out in the second half and kind of lost their edge, the zone did not help either. Glad we were able to grind it out to the end and get the W.

Excellent start & finish to 1st half, excellent start to second (aided by a string of fouls on Memphis). Turnover City in 2d half during Memphis's run. No one player stood out that much for me - Henry, Jason, Hollis, Markel took turns on both the good and bad. As a team, we rebounded well and scrapped for loose balls well, I thought.
Memphis has better talent than their record - I'd be frustrated if I were a fan.
We're definitely an 8-man rotation, though Hopkins will get spot duty situationally.

And for good measure, why not throw in the chalice with the palace has the brew that is true. Actually, the vessel with the pestle holds the potion with the poison. The flagon with the dragon holds the brew that is true. Everybody quit rhyming, I mean it! Does anybody want a peanut?

The refs were attrocious. The Technical on Greg was complete hose excrement! He just turned around made no contact and got a technical. That was essentially a 6 point swing in the game. Then How the heck do they not T up Pastner for touching the ball while standing on the court. Horrible. Complete crap!
Also frustrated we blew that 20 point lead. We got up by 20 and the team and the crowd assumed the game was over. Coach started working the bench in and the crowd died down.(The crowd did really well today, there weren't as many people as I would have liked, but the ones there were loud. Were so late arriving though before tip it seemed like there were more memphis fans there because ours hadn't gotten to their seats yet)
That being said to me it seemed like we played incredible defense outside of that stretch. Like really good. Especially Hollis who did a great job shutting down Will Barton.
We had a lot of shots rim out in the first half other wise we would've been ahead a lot more earlier. Our offensive rebounding and rebounding in general was very impressive tonight.

The second half when Memphis went on their run is a must-have DVD when we prepare for Syracuse in a month or so. Zone defense created either turnovers from shaky passing or the dreaded long shot-long rebound-fast break trifecta. Cuse does that about as well as anybody in the country.
Fortunately we'd built a large enough lead--Memphis was basically waving the white flag for about five minutes--to have a little room for error. Still, if one of the Bartons (it was one of them, right?) doesn't fumble a layup out of bounds, it gets a little hairy in the final four minutes.

Interesting game for Sims. Henry did a lot of things very well, like rebounding and defensive position. On offense, it was a bit of a mixed bag. He fell in love a little too much with the 15-17 foot jumper. Take it once or twice max a game to keep the defense honest. Once you get into 4-5 attempts from that distance it becomes a negative. He tried to thread the passing needle a few too many times. And a few of his drives were a little out of control. However, in big picture, it was a pretty impressive performance by Henry. He is doing a lot of things much much better than last year. If a few more of those in and out shots drop tonight and he eliminates 2 turnovers, he's player of the game.
Markel is playing above average. No doubt about it. His handle is really tight. And he's really picking his spots nicely to shoot it from deep and drive to the bucket. He's confident.
Nate is brutal in almost every facet except effort. Otto is playing at the end of every close game. I guess that's what really matters.
Speaking of Otto, I'm a big fan, but where oh where has your jump shot gone my man? Please come back. He does everything else sooo well...
Hollis a little quiet at times, but stepped up when he needed too. Great rebounding.
Clark was a man tonight. Whaddup with the missed FTs???
Funny but we're not really using much of a deep bench anymore. Looks like JTIII is down to a 7 man rotation with Jabril and Greg splitting minutes for that 7th spot. Some habits are hard to break. I guess we are well conditioned, so it doesn't matter unless we get into foul trouble.
What does JTIII do when Henry gets into foul trouble?

The coach has simply got to use the bench. He cannot go through another season playing 8. When we are up 20 there is no reason not to give Hopkins some play. We are not going to get through the season without foul trouble or injuries. Nate you are simply paralyzed out there on offense. Try to take a shot or make a move and then your energy can be a real asset. Now you are a liability when we need points.

According to several sources in Verizon, neither Memphis nor Pastner had left the locker room as of 1030pm. Mex Carey tweeted that it was the first time he had to ask an opposing team to leave because they needed to close up shop.

1) Memphis refused to talk to the press and were in the locker room as Philly said for hours. I think we broke them.
2) Nate was perfectly fine tonight 2pts, 4 rebounds, 3 assists only one turnover. He had a lot of heady plays. He facilitates the offense. It doesn't stagnate because of him. I think we all wish he did a little more, but he didn't hurt us at all today.
3) Coach put in the bench up 20 and it nearly cost us the game. What do you want him to do?
