Ewing Jr played 1:37 near the end of the 2nd quarter to protect Carl Landry with 3 fouls.
I wanted Monty Williams to put him in for defensive possessions after Portland timeouts near the end of the game. Okafor was playing with 5 fouls and fouled out switching on a pick and roll to cover Gerald Wallace. At that point late in the game Aldridge was just setting picks for Wallace or Andre Miller. I'm sure PEJr would have guarded the pick and roll better than Okafor with 5 or Aaron Gray or Jason Smith or the Hornets other options.
Maybe PE Jr will get a few more minutes in the next few games. The Hornets definitely need more from their bench.

Ewing Jr. says NBA call-up came out of the blue www.argusleader.com/article/20110331/SPORTS03/103310339/Ewing-Jr-says-NBA-call-up-came-out-blue?odyssey=tab|topnews|text|SportsIn the middle of the season, the 6-foot-8 Ewing Jr. was traded from one of the best teams in the D-League, Reno, to the worst team in the league. One of his first questions upon being picked up at the Sioux Falls airport: Can we still make the playoffs? No. However, that did little to deter the former Big East Sixth Man of the Year. He averaged 19.9 points, 10.6 rebounds and 3.3 assists in 23 games with the Force. They went 7-16 with him and are 3-21 without him. "He definitely gave our fans something to be excited about," club president Mike Heineman said. "When we got him, we were just picking him up as a good player - we didn't realize what a good person he was. ... You'd think a guy with a famous dad would come in and be a prima donna, and he was the exact opposite."

For all the fretting about Georgetown playing small ball, when I was watching the Hornets last night to see if Ewing Jr. would play, they played most of the 4th quarter with Chris Paul, Jarrett Jack, and Willie Green, listed at 6-0, 6-3, 6-3, with Ameka Okafor (6-10) and Carl Landry (6-9).
Portland was playing Andre Miller (6-2), Wesley Matthews (6-5), Rudy Fernandez (6-6), Gerald Wallace (6-7), and Lamarcus Aldredge (6-11). That is slightly bigger but not much.
NBA teams can get away with playing this small in part because the league made it illegal for centers to guard the lane the way that Bill Russell and Ewing and Olajuwan and the Pistons Bad Boys did. The rules are rigged to let guards and forwards drive into the lane and draw fouls.

As much as this seems to be the case-teams with size are what win in the NBA---you better have bigs or you won't be winning championships. It's why the Thunder made the trade--you need big frontline if you want to win-and they were too little. The teams you mentioned--Portland has a big team they can go with--Aldridge, Camby, Wallace, Batum, Roy, is a possible lineup--and key for any great team is to be diverse and play any type of game if needed--but size wins in NBA basketball and always will. Jordan's Bulls didn't have a great big man--but they were a big team--across the board.

Yes, I should have added that these small ball teams can't beat the Spurs or the Lakers, but I think it is mostly because the small teams can't guard good big men, not because the big teams are able to shut down the lane.
I hate watching Oklahoma City because Durant and Wesbrook play similar to Lebron, Wade, & Carmelo with the go-to move of driving into a defender, initiating contact, and drawing a shooting foul. Big men have to try to contest shots while backpedaling for fear of a foul call. Those are the kind of fouls that get Roy in foul trouble even when he is trying to avoid any contact.

Understand your frustration but Spurs have gone "Small Ball" in approach--or as they call it in NBA "jumpshooting team". Those teams don't win in postseason--and I think Spurs could get upset in 2nd Round--Duncan no longer requires double--he can't beat you--so you stay at home on shooters and make him beat you scoring--kind of how Boston beat them last night--don't let others go off-(Ginobili) and make Duncan get numbers--not to mention Spurs can't defend paint at all. I love the trade Thunder made to get Perkins--because it puts Ibaka in starting lineup and makes them bigger/tougher defending paint/having an enforcer that will protect rim. It's why I like Noah for Bulls too--and Asik the rookie has been a valuable addition to their team. If the corpse (Jermaine O'Neal) can just make simple plays--like wide open layups/dunks--and Shaq gives Celtics good 15-20 minutes--it'll help--but I liked idea of using them as "stiffs" for fouls to hammer the Heat/Bulls driving to rim--and then still having Perkins to play/use fouls and still have the "offensive" team that plays down stretch. Losing that is what I hate about the trade--now 2 old stiffs are going to be relied upon to contribute more then just fouls and a few easy hoops (which aren't easy for either guy anymore).

no reason for his jersey not to go up now imo. But I don't know who makes those decisions are or what their criteria is.

If the Hornets can beat Houston Wednesday night they clinch a playoff spot with 4 games left and can give Ewing some run before the playoffs.
They are in play for seeds 6 through 8, but 7 or 8 is most likely. If they face the Lakers or Spurs, they will need Ewing to back up Landry and Ariza. Quincy Pondexter would be overmatched.

Pistons @ Wizards tonight. Halftime. DaJuan got about 2 min. Greg has 14 and 8.
Greg seems to be playing well in VC...I wonder why. We would have won this year with him.
