Yurt has gotten a shot due to Bam’s injury and he’s killing it in the NBA. We should be excited for him and it only can help in recruiting . How on earth did this descend into a battle over Ewing as a coach and racism? Our Big East season has been postponed over COVID and so far the performance on court has hardly been inspiring. Can we at least enjoy Yurt’s NBA success a bit, folks??

This is a thread about Omer Yurtseven in the NBA. Please transition discussion about other topics into another thread. Feel free to start one if that is appropriate.

A question of how is the manner in which Y7 is being used now different from his time @ Gtown, that's how the conversation of PE's coaching started. Seems like a natural conversation to have in my opinion...

Yeah and I really like Josh but I totally agree with you about Josh (meaning his messing up his own life and taking down the team). Not long ago there was an internet scandal involving a guy with the name LeBlanc and the guy was from Louisiana. I don't want to put it out on here but if you want to hear about it, I can tell you if you pm me. I just hope that it wasn't Josh and maybe it was one of his relatives. Josh LeBlanc just played for UAB against UTSA on 1/1/22, so if he's in serious trouble, it must have happened since then. Really poor form putting something like this out there, no matter how much you want to trash Josh to prop up Ewing's poor coaching. Totally agree, but shouldn't you take your own advice and pass on running down people just because you don't like Ewing?

I've been doing some juggling on my CBS Sports fantasy basketball team due to a wave of injuries, and just added Yurt7. I expect to keep him until Bam (who I have been holding for weeks) returns.

John Hollinger piece on Heat / Yurtseven: theathletic.com/3054730/2022/01/07/heats-unheralded-trio-leads-list-of-dog-days-heroes-john-hollingers-players-you-need-to-know-but-dont/Yurtseven is an interesting case because he had been on scouts’ radars for a long time — ever since he was a 17-year-old for Fenerbahce grabbing every rebound in a preseason game in Brooklyn, prompting execs to text their overseas scouts, “Who the hell is THIS guy?” His college career at NC State and Georgetown was good but not quite spectacular enough to get him drafted; despite strong per-minute numbers, concerns lingered about his skill level away from the basket and ability to defend in space. Teams probably should have warmed up to him sooner last season, when he was second in the G League in PER in 14 games for Oklahoma City (trailing only the legendary Paul Reed), but the Heat were able to pluck him in May. After an impressive summer league stint, he began the year third on the center depth chart but was pressed into service when the injuries hit. The result? A 23.8 rebound rate that ranks tied for second in the league, a 4.1 percent block rate and enough short-range shooting touch to keep defenses honest. He had four straight double-doubles before settling for five points (but with 17 rebounds!) against Golden State on Tuesday. It may be a bit before he stretches out the 3-point line, but Yurtseven has shown enough touch to indicate promise on that front. Here, for instance, he nails the Udonis Haslem Memorial Baseline Jumper for a key bucket late against Sacramento, a game he finished with 22 points and 16 rebounds. This is really further confirmation of what I posted before...it probably would've benefited Yurtseven in terms of draft status to show a broader skill set on the perimeter and not run a defensive scheme that forced him to hard hedge as NBA teams don't do that. Now did it really hurt Gtown that season that he wasn't used that way? That's a different discussion. Again, our offensive efficiency in Yurtseven's season was our best national rank. With no other rebounding presence, his offensive rebounding was critical to the team and we had enough 3 point shooting with Pickett at the 4. His ability to get to the line was crucial. Sure, a few pick and pops probably would've made it easier to allow Mac to get to the lane etc. And Etomic's 80/20 type suggestion is fine but are we really talking about 1 or 2 3s a game as the difference? He was never gonna be a high volume Govan-like 3 point shooter. Agree w Professor that would've been more plausible with a non-shooting PF who needed to be at the hoop. Yurtseven's offensive efficiency dropped at Gtown vs. NC State because his usage shot up and so much of our offense was throwing him the ball in the post, partly because we didn't have other creators and that has a better chance at success than other options on the floor at the time. The defense was as a disaster, Ewing literally abandoned the scheme the following season. Not sure what more confirmation you need than that in terms of whether it was a mistake and if he'd do things differently.

I think it means they're on the Go-Go. Most Go-Go never play for the Wizards, but it's one path that has gotten people there, including more than usual this season because of covid. One who came close, but never saw the bench or floor for a Wizards game, was former BE opponent Kellen Dunham, from Butler. He played for the Go-Go 2018-2020, and had an Exhibit 10 deal with the Wizards the second year. As in the BE, he was among the G league's best 3 point shooters. He's not been a Go-Go after 2020, though.
