CBS has started this new way of disseminating information about teams. Lots of quotes and statistics about the team. Lots of these quotes I haven't seen anywhere else. Preseumeably they'll do this all year. Seem like a great source of information. Perhaps should get pinned at some point. www.cbssports.com/collegebasketball/rapid-reports/team/GTOWNHere are some of the more interesting one's post midnight madness. Oct. 17, 2011 5:59 p.m. - by Elliott Smith - F Thompson more than just a shooter SF Hollis Thompson was 42-of-92 from 3-point range last season, accounting for nearly half of his 189 shot attempts. This year, the 6-8 junior would like to expand his scoring potential by attacking the basket. “Ideally yes, if the opportunity presents itself,” Thompson said. “But I’m going to do whatever coach wants me to do.” Oct. 17, 2011 10:29 p.m. - by Elliott Smith - Thompson expects improvement from Starks PG Markel Starks struggled during limited minutes last season, but coach John Thompson III thinks the sophomore has made strides in the offseason. “Last year, his minutes were, ‘Get in there and don’t mess up,’ to a much different role (this year),” Thompson said. “He’s going to have to produce.” Oct. 18, 2011 8:37 p.m. - by Elliott Smith - Lubick feels better about Princeton offense Sophomore F Nate Lubick started 13 games last season and averaged 4 points and 3.5 rebounds but often felt confused in the Hoyas’ Princeton-style offense. With a year of experience, Lubick's more relaxed in his role. “I feel a lot more free,” he said.

Please keep the shooting to within 22 ft. of the basket.

Hustle Guy/Defensive presence. Where the hell was the presence on defense? Your job is to play hard on BOTH ends of the court, and that's it. Scoring doesn't mean anything if you are doing it on a bad team. Jason Clark's not an elite player, he's a role player--and if he's thinking he's got to be a leading scorer, a bit concerning.

what'd you expect him to say RDF. I'm not gonna score if the opportunity presents itself.

Like it or not, Clark's the best and most experienced player on this edition of the Hoyas until someone proves otherwise against legitimate opponents. If he is not our leading scorer, that would be concerning. But I agree that you don't declare yourself the scorer, you just do it.

As a SR and leader, and not accomplishing anything in my career, all I want to do is win and do whatever it takes to win. If you are an elite player-pts come, as do assists, as does anything that makes your team better. Great players don't worry about roles--they fill each area up--great teams have role players but great players go into games knowing they can impact the game in all facets, not pre determined.

FINALLY, a format for people who want more context than a Tweet can provide, but don't have the attention span for a blurb. ![???](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/huh.png)

I'll be shocked if he's our leading scorer over Hollis and would venture to say that's a bad thing if he is. I think Jason has more than he's shown, but he's not a strong creator or scorer. He's a guy that should be a hustle guy with a streaky and hopefully more consistent outside shot that gives him the potential to be a really valuable complementary player. But unless he's improved vastly (possible), him being the primary scorer/creator is not going to end all that well.

The main area of improvement I want to see from JC is shot selection. He needs to take better shots and attack the basket more than last year. Also, I'm concerned that if he has JT3's green light (sounds like it), he could end up throwing it from 25 ft. rather than shooting it from 21 ft. like last year. JT3 needs to control that from Day 1 of the season. If he shoots from more than X ft., he sits.

Jason Clark looked terrific this summer in Kenner. By far the most polished offensive player, I thought. I would be shocked if he is not our leading scorer, and primary option on offense with the clock running down. Hollis Thompson's jump shot is a thing of beauty but his handle is still cringe-worthy.

I would add that in our Big East Tournament loss to Connecticut, Jason Clark had a pretty good game. In that game, he scored 23 and he actually created plays for himself, attacking the basket at times. That's something he rarely did during the regular season, but with Wright out he had more opportunities. I'd love to see that side of Jason this season. I hope we do!

Jason was really impressive in that UConn game. When he plays with fire, he gets to the basket and makes plays. I think he deserves more credit than he's been getting on here. His second half of last season was less than impressive, but he's still been a really solid player for us. As a senior leader, I think he's going to have a great year.

Jason and Hollis both had games last season where you were left to think if they could only do this consistently. Well, now is that time. There are no others to defer to. Jason in that Uconn game and Hollis in that tourney game. If we can get those two to play close to that level consistently then we will be a dangerous team, especially if Nate and Markel turn the corner and Henry plays near the level he did at the beginning of the season last year.

I like your thinking, but there's a heckuva lot of IFs in there. OK, now to switch direction... I also think we are going to surprise to the upside, because some of those IFs will happen, and because we are going to get much more than most would expect from our newbies. No, not a Conference title surprise, but a much more competitive team that will finish in the upper half of the conference and will be building to a strong finish late in the season. There is no pressure of expectations as we've had in recent years, just a bunch of young kids who want to get after it -- on BOTH ENDS! IMHO, this is going to be a very enjoyable season with more highs than lows. Is it FEBRUARY YET?!?! WOOHOOO!! ;D ;D ![8-)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/cool.png)

Here are some more reports...
Oct. 19, 2011 1:59 p.m. - by Elliott Smith - G Clark lauds increased intensity G Jason Clark said that an increased intensity during practice has been a major difference from previous teams. “Guys aren’t afraid to go after guys,” he said. “Guys understand if we go after each other, it may get heated, but it will make each of us better.” Hoyas RapidReports
Oct. 19, 2011 2:26 p.m. - by Elliott Smith - Thompson pleased with frosh attitudes Coach John Thompson III is pleased that his heralded freshman class, led by F Otto Porter , didn’t arrive on campus with big heads. “I don’t think this is an egotistical group,” he said. “Walking in the door, they all had a positive sense of selflessness to be a good teammate.” Hoyas RapidReports

Oct. 19, 2011 1:07 p.m. - by Elliott Smith - G Clark likes underdog role Senior G Jason Clark was fine with the Hoyas’ 10th-place ranking in the Big East preseason coaches’ poll, the team’s lowest since 2004-05, when they were 11th. “That’s great for us,” Clark said. “We’re the underdogs. It’s great to play like that because we have nothing to lose.”
Oct. 19, 2011 1:21 p.m. - by Elliott Smith - F Thompson doesn't take exception to snub Junior F Hollis Thompson wasn’t surprised he wasn't on the three All-Big East preseason teams released Wednesday. “I guess that’s expected,” said Thompson, who averaged 8.6 points last year. “I’m sure my stats don’t qualify me. I’m not worried about it.”
Oct. 19, 2011 1:48 p.m. - by Elliott Smith - Youth makes season unknown Coach John Thompson III said one reason the Hoyas were picked 10th by the Big East coaches was unfamiliarity. “We have a lot of new faces that no one in this room knows,” he said. “We will get the opportunity to prove everyone wrong … or not.”

IMO .. Jason wasn't the same after his personal loss early in the season and it affected his game tremendously. He wasn't the same player that had analyst screaming "Most under-rated player in the league" at one point. I expect Jason to quiet the critics and hush the non-believers this season . Clark will show the leadership needed on this young team and I support him 100%. Hollis and Jason will be counted on to score pts , but I expect our front-court to lighten the load. I feel we'll get points off our D this yr and JTIII will use our bench for this reason. I also expect a big yr from Henry.
