Gene Wang from the Post is on site and writing a story. You can expect that one to be objective. This does present a dilemma for both Georgetown and China: it's not unusual for skirmishes to break out in an intense basketball game (although this was clearly over the top).
Leaving now and returning home is a bad option for both sides, but playing this team again in a couple of days will have to occur with some prior discussion at least.

Seriously, is there any chance that any of the Georgetown players could receive suspensions, etc. as a result of this incident? Based on what we know now, it seems like that would be totally unfair, but I am sure if something like this happened domestically, it would result in sanctions of some sort.
I am glad that the guys are safe. One thing is for sure, this trip will certainly be memorable for everybody that's over there!

In 9 out of 10 situations, I think it's best to keep a level head and stay out of this sort of stuff. But based on the accounts so far, it sounds like the team barely had a choice. If one of our players is getting mobbed by a Chinese team that is getting the game handed to it anyway, what are they supposed to do? And if the fans get involved, what choice do they have?
Let people play this up as "thuggery." I'd rather get that reputation from an incident where the team was forced into a confrontation than one where they provoked something or it was a fifty-fifty kind of situation. This sounds like it was justified. If there's a negative backlash from it, so be it. What matters is that they protected themselves and each other.

This is REALLY not good, at least right now.
Hugely embarrassing for the school and team, no matter how we try to spin it.
Players have to keep a level head in that situation. It's a goodwill tour, for Gods sake. Bad day for our Hoyas.

First thing I thought as soon as I saw the pics. We have more than one account of the game saying we were taking a lot of stuff but obviously those pictures lack context to outsiders not reading HoyaTalk/Casual/et al. To add insult to injury, Duke will be portrayed as the all perfect, classy team whereas our boys will come across as thugs. ::Ding, ding, ding:: We have a winner. Someone gets it. You want the team to be tough. But you want it to be mentally tough as well. Turn the other cheek and be the better man/men. As for Jason, if he did throw a punch, don't act passive on the court for most of three seasons only to fnd your fight half a globe away in another country for what WAS supposed to be a trip about, in part, international goodwill.

Yup HOYAS come home! Jason way to knock a-- his out! Seriously - stop posting this stupid ish. Lots of people are going to be coming to this board today, and they'll see moronic posts like these. It's one thing to defend our team - another to sound like an a--clown.

To be fair to Jason Clark, we don't know what happened here. He may have been attacked by the Chinese player and he may have been fighting back.

Jason never showed an ill tempered bone in his body I think that exonerates him. To be fair to Jason Clark, we don't know what happened here. He may have been attacked by the Chinese player and he may have been fighting back.

why are we saying we don't know? we have an eyewitness account. It might be wrong, but until there's any evidence it is, i'm going with the eyewitness account.

I'm sorry can we take a step back. The Chinese Govt was hosting Georgetown University team and fans. Our amateur athletes were playing their professional athletes.
Now just for fun, imagine the situation in reverse. A group of amateur Chinese athletes playing professional American athletes (who represented the Armed Forces) while on a "Goodwill Tour." And then there was a full out brawl including American fans attacking Chinese athletes.
The US & International Media would throw a fit. We would be forced to apologize and called everything under the sun for disgracing the US. I expect to see similar outrage the opposite direction.

Seriously speaking....i don't think the Hoyas should play their remaining two games in China. As soon as I read a player from the Chinese team essentially assaulted JT3 and the refs let him get away with it ...its time to pack up your bags and go home.
Ridiculous!!!

ESPN Radio nationally (WTEM 980 in DC) just mentioned incident; teased that they will be reading the blog post account of it in ten minutes (about 10:45 AM EDT)
