I hope the whole Bornstein=Benimon analogy I used for the first Kenner League weekend doesn't hop back over to Georgetown at this point.
By now though, the whole Sunil Gulati-Jurgen Klinsmann thing feels vaguely like "Chinese Democracy".

Finally! This should have happened in 2010. Give Klinsmann whatever he wants. Eh, I personally think Klinsmann is extremely overrated as a coach. He was able to get 3rd place in a WC on home soil, but the majority of the tactics were handled by Joachim Löw (now current German coach). He didn't impress with added responsibilities with Bayern Munchen, so why would I expect anything to be different with his demands for total control of the USMNT? |

ksf, I was going to write a long response re: Klinsmann v. Löw, coaching club v. national team, available candidates v. WC-experienced candidate familiar with U.S. Soccer, etc..., but I'm glad this thing took care of itself. I'm guessing you're a soccer fan like me and have your opinions on the subjects too. IMO, this change is for the best. These past six months have been the lowest point for the US men's soccer program in a long time (the senior team missing out on the 2013 Confed Cup, losing its first ever group match, losing the final to Mexico 4-2, the U-20 not making its WC, the U-17 again looking overhyped in its WC). IMO, this is a step in the right direction. No matter what you think of Sunil (i.e., stubbon, dictator, etc...), he's a competitor who wants to win now and was feeling the heat. The whole program needed a kick in the butt.
That said, the rest of the WC cycle will be very interesting. First, I want to see Chandler on the field v. Mexico and no more Beni... I mean, Bornstein!!!! Chandler should be rested by now. We'll see if his club allows him to play a friendly. Next, I hope Bolden's back, but he might not be ready or his club may not want him to play a friendly so soon after coming back from his 2nd serious injury. Then, I want to see if JK can attract several young dual nationals playing in Germany (one was the captain of the u-19 German national team at some point and several promising strikers and defenders, which are sorely needed) and if he can keep some eligible for other countries. Also, how will M. Bradley react? Since he's an all-out competitor, I'm guessing he'll be fine. We'll find out soon enough.

Awesome news! I can't wait to see what he does with the USMNT. He's not afraid to change things around and will challenge the team. Great call by US Soccer.
