Don't know if anyone else was watching this, and while I'm not normally a big fan but got sucked into watching after the USA got screwed on two bad calls and clawed back to win in penalty kick s in OT!

Ditto - what drama.
However, all the crap in that match shows why soccer will never be a big sport here in the US.

The rekick on the penalty kick gave me flashbacks to Munich 1972 Soviet Union/USA basketball game.

My legal assistant is French -- this week at work should be interesting leading up to the semifinal. USA! USA! USA!

I flipped it on in time to see the header to tie and the shootout. Pretty impressive to win that game playing down 1 woman for most of the second half.

I actually watched the entire match. It was exciting. Since some are DVRing the replay, I won't go into specifics, but I watched the first half out at the lake, and then went down to the local watering hole to watch the second half. Granted, there were only about 5 of 6 people down there, but by the time I left, everyone had gotte into the game. One guy even said something like, "dammit HiFi, I was leaving, but I'm going to have to have another beer. You got me into this soccer match." The impressive feat of that is that Interlachen -- the "town" out by the lake -- is quite rural. It may very well have been the very first time many of them hs ever watched a soccer match to begin wtih, but certainly the first time they had -- egads!!! -- watched women play a sport!

Just when I was wondering when they were gonna finally sit Wambach, she goes and does that! Unreal cross made the play but still, great stuff.

Is ESPN3 totally and unsurprisingly failing for anyone else, or is it just me?

another amazing win for the women. Wow great game. Were dominated much of the game but then came out of no where to dominate the last 15 minutes.

Great win. I must say - what a difference it is to watch a game where the referee is in control of the game, making good calls versus the game against Brazil where the ref completely lost control. Its natural to only comment on officiating when it is poor, so I want to give credit where credit is due and say that this was a tremendously well officiated game for both sides.

I feel compelled to point out that Abby Wambach is a former Florida Gator! And, along with Hope Solo (and arguably, a couple of other players -- Saurbrun, Rapone, Rapinoe ...), is responsible for the US making the finals! Now let's bring home the gold again, ladies!
I see no reason to start losing to Japan now. I think the stat I saw was in 25 international matches, the US women are 22-0-3 against Japan.

The coach doesn't recruit the proper players, offense is too slow, no off-season conditioning, lacking in defensive fundamentals...................
