Anyone who didn't see this admission coming as soon as this story broke should gain automatic admission into the Naive Hall of Fame.
Why these guys continue to try these ridiculous denials is beyond me.
As for his resignation, well no he doesn't have to, but he probably should.

Nice to see the MSM covering this story and identifying him as a Democrat. They often reserve this sort of coverage for Republicans. Well done MSM.

I don't care what you think about Andrew Breitbart. As soon as anyone saw Weiner's complete failure of a performance trying to answer questions from CNN's Dana Bash, the jig was pretty much up right then and there. That was just horrendous. Anyone who didn't know what was coming after that simply didn't want to know what was coming. If you needed a little more time, the "I can't say with certitude" comment should've cinched it for you.

Actually, antagonism from the left may have helped keep this alive long enough: whether that's other Democrats interested in becoming mayor of NYC or Pelosi-Hoyer establishment types upset at Weiner for making them look bad. The saddest part of the coverage has been that roughly 2/3 of the reporters barely seem to know what facebook, twitter, yfrog, and now tweetdeck are, let alone how they work, coupled with the 2/3 of the reporters who apparently don't know what sex is. Factor in those members of the media who think that liveral congressmen are inherently smart, honest people and it's amazing Weiner has even reached this point.

Not sure it qualifies me for the Naive Hall of Fame, but I thought there was a non-zero chance he'd outsourced handling the twitter feed to an intern or staffer who'd exhibited monumentally bad judgment.

Per Matt Yglesias, the rules for surviving a sex scandal are:
1. Be an incumbent. 2. Don't resign.
We'll see what Weiner decides to do.

EDIT: #4. Make sure your ex-girlfriend (who you also lied to) is not a well-known pundit with a regular newspaper column and who can get on a TV network pretty much any time she wants.

One of the untold stories of this saga is how has given the Republicans their best slogan for 2012:
We Haven't Done Weiner

Are the Democratic leaders calling for him to resign the same ones that called on Clinton to resign for things far more serious than what Weiner is accused of? Now, of course, the lawyers will say Weiner is accused of worse and, in a purely legal sense, they may be right but there's more than legality involved.

Hypocrisy applies to both parties - I distinctly remember few calls for Vitter to resign, even though he actually committed a crime (though the statute of limitations had passed). A Democrat would have been appointed in his place if he had resigned though, but I'm sure that had nothing to do with it...
Lesson learned? Both parties are terrible...
