Besides Mourning, and Mutombo this was not one of Georgetown's most talented team....However they played hard and smart every game. I watched them in Arizona take #! seed UNLV a great team to the wire. Also Brian Kelly and Ron Thompson was on that team.... I love this year's team. But if we had played with the tenacity and determination of that team...who knows what could have happened?

That's because Joey Brown was a true point guard, if you have one of those at the top you can go far, Joey was a great leader and had a high IQ...

When you start the analysis with "besides Mourning and Mutombo," the rest of the stuff matters much less. If you put Mourning and Mutombo on this year's team, we'd still be playing.

Those guys did give their all and played their butts off--Mourning getting injured after the win over Duke really hurt them regular season. Losing to that UNLV team was no crime--prior to Duke upset over them--Hoyas were only team to give them a game that year--they averaged winning by 28 pts per game.
Still--you start a thread like this--and it brings up the pain of Pops dropping recruiting ball big time.
Brown could've been Kenny Anderson
Churchwell could've been Grant Hill
Little known until recently--Larry Johnson was listing Georgetown #1 until they stopped calling him for some reason--and he would've been ideal replacement for John Turner.
Ugh........well at least the guys busted their butts and gave everything they had.

If this year's team had Jason Kidd and Shaq, we'd still be playing. ::Sigh::

Actually Bronxitos did overstand but he did not like the smear on GrandMama. LJ was not in that hot tub or at Vegas at the time of that picture.

"I just wanted to see what was inside!!!" shouted the insect as the Venus Flytrap closed in around him.
I really need to learn the benefits of NOT clicking.

My favorite part of that article is that Perry's attorney at that time is now the current mayor of Las Vegas.

Dont forget Chris Jackson and Jimmy Jackson wanted to be Hoyas. Stephon Marbury wanted in as well..... Georgetown recruited Jackson hard--he just chose LSU--and it wasn't that big of a loss considering it was well known Kenny Anderson wanted to be a Hoya and he was in the following class and at least the '89 team (Jackson's FR season) had Charles Smith returning--who became BE Player of Year/BET MOP. Jim Jackson liked Hoyas-but they were never considered the leader. Marbury--who cares--Georgetown had Iverson-who was better, and Hoyas got 2 years out of AI-- Steve Francis wanted to be a Hoya and would've come in after Iverson left--so that mattered more. Just sick to think that Thompson not wanting to work at recruiting like he used to/needed to if he wanted the program to maintain the level it was during 1980's, was the downfall. It wasn't probation or anything from outside-it was self inflicted. Georgetown basicallly recruited like it was on probation.

Few teams ever have two players of that caliber in the starting line-up much less more. Not saying that other teams like Fab 5 have not had 3 or more NBA ,but the comparison is not an easy one to make. The teams were built entirely differently and the style of play on both sides of the court was very different. Also, it is much easier to play well against quality opposition with a star post player--much less two. Mutombo and Alonzo made up for a lot of mistakes with their defense and rebounding.

LJ wanted to stay in the Dallas area (where he went to HS) and enroll at SMU. The story around here was that his original SAT was too low to get in the first time around, and his second score was suspiciously high, so SMU asked him to retake it. He refused and ended up in JC and then UNLV.
Here's another name for you - Wayman Tisdale (RIP) also wanted to attend GU and play with Ewing, but then decided he didn't want to play PF. Imagine that front line for a minute.

Georgetown would still be playing if Greg Monroe and Latavious Williams were on the roster.

This conversation started me thinking about the best team the board could assemble of players who transferred from Georgetown (limited to modern era JTII era and forward). I guess the selection criteria would be based on how well the players did at Georgetown and how well they did after transferring from the Hoyas.
I'll start by throwing out a straw man starting 5:
PG - Ed Sheffey SG - Demetrius Hunter SF - Anthony Jones PF - Duane Spencer C - Vernon Macklin
Players Under Consideration:
Pascal Fleury Antoine Stoudemaire Michael Graham Eric Myles Kenny Brunner Michael Tate-Vinson Milton Bell Jerry Nichols Ray Reed David Edwards Matt Causey Josh Thornton Marc Egerson Jeremiah Rivers Omar Wattad
Lots of guards on this list. A lot fewer big men. I know I am missing a bunch.

No way David Edwards is not the starting PG on the All-Transfer team.
