The worrisome thing is can we beat Cincy? - we couldn't at home ........ VERY worrisome. Not much evidence lately that we are playing well enough to beat Cincinnati at all, let alone on the road on their Senior Day. ON EDIT: Honestly, thinking about playing Cincy again has me reliving the nightmare of last Wednesday's game and I feel physically ill. God we looked incompetent - even before CW4 went down. There are scenarios where we'd not only play Cincy on Saturday, but then again in NYC. Puke. Just puke.

They are an average, to slightly above average, Big East team. That might also be the category that we are in, but any game against them is a toss-up as far as I'm concerned. The second half of that game we played against them at VC was the worst half of basketball I've seen this team play since first half at BC in JTIII's first season. Even without CW -- a lion and our most important player IMO -- we can and should beat this team. I haven't seen a cleanly-played from our guys since at SYRAPUKE. Its time to get back to the grind.

Yikes, Nova is in deep do-do. Have to think they are likely to finish 11th since they have to finish their season at Pitt. Then they have to play the Providence Marshan Brooks on Tuesday.

Not world beaters by any stretch - talking only about the way we played. Hopefully it was a horrible abberation and not just the way Cincy makes us play.

I always feel more confident when we draw teams that have beaten us during the regular season. Not sure why, but I'd rather play a Notre Dame, UCONN or West Virginia than Louisville, Marquette or Seton Hall.

Always a little extra incentive to even the score. I wouldn't mind a reprise of the Revenge Tour from last year.

We want Cinci to lose out and the winner of the Uconn WV game to lose again so we stay in 6th place.

Basically:
We win and WVU loses: 6 seed We win and WVU wins: 7 seed
If we lose, probably an 8 seed (if UConn loses) or 9 seed (if UConn wins).
However, there is still the possibility of this 10-8 mini-conference 5-team pileup:
UConn (3-2) GTown (2-2) WVU (2-2) Nova (2-2) Marquette (2-3)
Too complicated for me - I'm going to go with WIN and root against WVU and UConn.

6 and 7 seed scenarios are cut and dry. Same with 8/9 seed scenarios involving just us and UConn.
A maximum of 5 teams could potentially finish tied at 10-8 (the only H2H matchup of teams at 10-7 or 9-8 right now is us vs. Cinci).
Lose and we could be involved in the following mini-conference tiebreakers at 10-8:
GU/UConn/WVU: -WVU 2-0 -UConn 1-1 -GU 0-2 (9th)
GU/UConn/Nova: -UConn 2-0 -GU 1-1 (9th) -Nova 0-2
GU/UConn/Marquette: -UConn 2-1 -GU 1-1 (9th) -MU 1-2
GU/Nova/Marquette: -GU 2-0 (8th) -Nova 1-1 -MU 0-2
GU/Nova/WVU: -WVU 1-1 (beat 2nd seed ND) -GU 1-1 (8th) -Nova 1-1
GU/WVU/Marquette: -WVU 1-1 (beat 2nd seed ND) -GU 1-1 (8th) -Marquette 1-1
GU/UConn/WVU/Nova -WVU 2-1 (beat ND) -UConn 2-1 -Nova 1-2 -GU 1-2 --> after WVU is taken out -UConn 2-0 -GU 1-1 (9th) -Nova 0-2
GU/UConn/WVU/MU -WVU 2-1 -MU 2-2 -UConn 2-2 -GU 1-2 (10th)
GU/UConn/MU/Nova -UConn 3-1 -GU 2-1 (9th) -MU 2-2 -Nova 1-2
GU/WVU/MU/Nova -GU 2-1 (8th by virtue of better record against SJU) -Nova 2-1 -WVU 1-2 -MU 1-2
Five team 10-8 mini conference listed above: GU would be 9th behind UConn and WVU because three team mini-conference between GU/WVU/Nova (all teams at 1-1), WVU would win by virtue of beating 2nd seeded ND.
Really need UConn to lose to ND on Saturday if we slip up.

Just refined it a little bit more: if I did this correctly, I don't think there is any scenario we are not at least the 8 seed if UConn loses. If they win and we don't, we will be the 9th or 10th seed.

Marquette split with UConn, and lost to us. UConn wins this group at 2-1, Gtown 1-1, Marquette 1-2.

Big Dog, you are right. I accidentally switched MU and UConn. But we are still 9th in that scenario.
I think it can be summed up best like this:
WIN and WVU loss: 6 seed WIN and WVU win: 7 seed LOSS and UConn loss: 8 seed LOSS and UConn win: 9 or 10 seed

I always had the feeling that WVU loss would come back to bite us. I'd much rather be the 6 seed then the 7. Id rather play the team that falls to the bottom of this 6 team race and Lville/SJU then some team that happens to lose a tiebreaker and ND/Pitt. I guess we'll see.

I'm not sure I'd rather see SJU in the garden rather than ND. (Similarly, w/ L'ville -- either the Cards or the Johnnies would probably do more on defense to make us pay for not having Wright in the game).

I understand it would help our collective fanbase psyche to get the highest seed possible - 6th place sounds a whole lot better than 10th place. But realistically, does anyone think this team has a deep run in them next week in NYC? I'm not sure it wouldn't be more beneficial to play on Tuesday and Wednesday to get this group more comfortable playing without Wright and then roll the dice with or without him in the NCAAs.

That's probably true. I'd really like to see Lville wipe the floor with WVU this weekend, though. I hate the idea that we might finish behind WVU.
I am not going to argue with that, guru. But, this is all on the presumption of us beating Cincy on the road this weekend. If we can beat Cincy on the road, i think we can win a game or 2 in the BET. I will agree with you that if we lose to Cincy, I could absolutely care less what seed we are. In fact, I havent even looked to see if anyone has figured that out.

In the tiebreaker you don't get penalized for games you had no chance to win (i.e. a 2-1 team does not get placed over a 1-1 team).
