If we beat Cincy, we are guaranteed to be in the top 8 so we play on Wed..
By my math, we can't slip below the number 8 position as West Virginia still has to play UConn, and Nova has two really tough games left..
Agreed?

I think so. I think a 7 seed is most likely at this point, meaning Session 4.

If we lose next weekend, any way we stay in top 8?

If we lose next weekend, any way we stay in top 8? Ideally, we want any team that we can't catch or can't catch us to win against teams in the middle of the pack. We also would want to avoid Cinci in any mini-conference in order to have a shot at the tiebreakers. Therefore: -G'town (10-7): L at Cinci --> 10-8 -UConn (9-7): L at WVU, L vs. ND --> 9-9 -WVU (9-7): W vs. UConn, L vs. Lville --> 10-8 -Cinci (9-7): W at Marquette, W. vs. G'town --> 11-7 -Nova (9-7): L at ND, L at Pitt --> 9-9 -Marquette (9-7): L vs. Cinci, L at SHU --> 9-9 In this scenario, Cinci would be the 6, WVU the 7, and GU the 8. But it would take a lot of help, and help we're not likely to get.

After looking further at it: basically the above scenario isn't as hard as one would seem. The crucial game is Cinci-Marquette; we want Cinci to finish ahead of us as to not kill our tiebreakers, so they'd have to win that game. After that, it really doesn't matter what happens to Marquette vs. SHU because we have the tiebreaker over them.
I don't see Nova doing better than a split the rest of the way, and we have the tiebreaker over them.
WVU plays UConn, so at most only one of those teams will finish ahead of us as long as the loser of that game also loses their last game to finish behind us.

Yeah, you hate to say it, but this is the grouping we are in the most trouble against. We lost to 3 of these teams, and possibly 4 times. If we lose on Saturday, I think we are out of the top 8. The only team that might lose twice is the one we probably care about the least - Nova. I am not sure it really matters. If we cant win any of our last 3, then maybe playing DePaul on Tuesday isnt the worst thing in the world. Unbelievable as it sounds, Marquette might have the magic of lucking into a high seed again this year.
I guess our best hope is that Marquette loses once, Nova loses at least once, and/or WVU loses twice.

I do not see WVU losing twice at home. They are playing tough teams, but I do not see that happening. Their only home loss this year was to Pitt and St. John's. I think Nova loses twice with two tough road games. Gotta root for Notre Dame (hate saying that) to beat UConn on the road on Saturday. Think we have to root for Marquette to beat Cincy so we hold the tie break over them.
Of course all of this does not matter if we lose on Saturday.

But, nothing matters if we win on Saturday??? If we win on Saturday, we are guaranteed a top 8 spot. This ONLY matters if we lose on Saturday. Unless you are just saying what I said in that if we lose, who really cares?

If we win Saturday then we will likely be a 6 or 7 because either UConn or WVU are guaranteed a loss when they play each other. Cincy will have at least 8 losses. Even if Nova wins out which is highly unlikely we have them on the tiebreaker.
Just win Saturday!

Win Saturday. Top 8 finish & first round bye. That's what matters most right now.
That and Chris's hand healing as soon as possible.

Even with Villanova losing yesterday, we can still finish in 11th place with a 10-8 record, which is just insane. I think that would have to be a 6 way tie at 10-8, though, which is pretty unlikely...though not improbable.

Is it wrong to hope we are #6 or #7 so we play at night on Wed. and Thurs. and I can go to the games? Is there anyway we can stay #6 with a win?

We beat Cincy, and whoever wins the UConn/WVU game tomorrow then loses on Saturday. We are then 11-7, even if Marquette wins out we have the tiebreaker against them.
