Today, Harry and his 8th grade classmates get to return to their grade school for on e last day to get their alumni pins, sign yearbooks and get an open trolley ride around Philadelphia (masked of course). Tomorrow, they get their long-delayed graduation, being held on the roof/playground of their downtown school. When I opened this thread, I did not know if he would ever get the chance to start school. Thank you to everyone in the Hoyatalk community for your unfailing love and support for my little boy. I know he will make you all proud. Wonderful news! Wishing nothing but continued health and happiness for you, Harry, and your family, 'Vadi!

Harry starts St Joe’s Prep today.
Hybrid schedule.
Has traded in soccer cleats for cross country spikes and under The summer tutelage of our friend Nevada Hoya is turning into a decent little runner. It seems like lifetime ago that he had his first day of kindergarten.
Thanks to everyone here; his triumphs are your triumphs.
Harry Saxa!!!

From my point of view, it is a really good move that I would recommend to many others. Running has the discipline of the watch. It is crystal clear who is better than whom. There won’t be some coach who thinks someone else better meets some unarticulated obscure criteria of arguable relevance. Running also rewards hard work and grit far more directly. Running is a practice for a lifetime.

Couldn't have said it better myself. I was a high school runner not so long ago, and I can honestly say that I learned more about life and work ethic on the track and on the trails than I did in the classroom. As far as training goes, the most important thing for me was a good pair of running shoes and a GPS watch to track pace and distance on runs. Make sure to mix in a few days of interval training (i.e. half mile repeats at 5k race pace) and some faster running with the usual long runs, and Harry should have a great freshman season!

In this crazy time I hope St. Joe's is able to have some XC meets. I have been greatly impressed by Harry for being able to do any workout I threw at him and doing it with comfort. Good luck, Harry, both in running and academics. Harry Saxa!!!

I'm so happy to know that Harry is healthy and well. I know 2020 has REALLY sucked but this is a reminder that things could be even worse. Here's to Harry's best year yet in the face of what's shaping up to be a dumpster fire of a 12 months. If anyone can beat the odds and have a fantastic year despite what the situation looks like, it's Harry. Stay well, young man. Harry Saxa!

It is now a decade since our lives were turned upside down with Harry’s diagnosis.
It is also a decade since the folks on this Board opened their collective hearts to a little boy they had never met and one very scared Dad.
Thanks to God, my son’s remarkable courage and some incredible medical talent, he is healthy, happy and enjoying his first year of high school.
While certain moments on this journey have been interminable, ten years has gone by in a flash.
As always, my gratitude to the people who have encouraged, supported, rooted for and prayed for Harry is eternal.
HARRY SAXA

Oh my. Has it been 10 years?! We continue to pray for Harry. I marvel at his progress over the years. I hope he is still enjoying XC/track.
