Prayer for a sick child: Lord Jesus Christ, Good Shepherd of the sheep, you gather the lambs in your arms and carry them in your bosom: We commend to your loving care this child Harry. Relieve his pain, guard him from all danger, restore to him your gifts of gladness and strength, and raise him up to a life of service to you. Hear us, we pray. Amen. Tell Harry he's being sent prayers and x's and o's (of the non-hoops kind) from nearby New Jersey. Also, CHOP has a website for kids to help answer questions, entertain them, and allay fears. www.chop.edu/kidshealthgalaxy/index.html

For Harry, Elvado and their family.
Watch, dear Lord, with those who wake or watch or weep tonight, and give your angels charge over those who sleep. Tend your sick ones, O Lord Jesus Christ, rest your weary ones, bless your dying ones, soothe your suffering ones, shield your joyous ones, and all for your love’s sake. Amen.

Elvado, this is terrible news and I'm glad to see you're staying strong, your son will most certainly need that strength in the days ahead. I wish only the best for you and your family in this trying time.

Elvado --
I read this board constantly, but rarely post. This requires it, though. My son, (CAS '00) was diagnosed with ALL (juvenile leukemia) while we were on a college trip in the fall of 1995. The diagnosis occurred at the University of Pennsylvania Hospital, and since it was ALL, he was treated at CHOP, and then later at Children's LA, where we live. The treatment at both places was world-class, and our son is alive, prospering, and will be joining me for the Big East next month. Harry is in good -- make that great -- hands. My family will pray for him, and as BlueandGray's terrific post indicates, we West Coast Hoyas are all praying for Harry and in your corner. If you want to talk, Elvado, PM me and I'll call. God love and keep you.

My 5 year old is in Children's Hospital in Philadelphia as doctors try to figure what type of cancer has attacked his bone marrow. Please include him in your prayers. A few years ago my son was diagnosed with bone cancer, that's I give my love to my Hoya and do what I do. Man, I dealt with all of it man, it's horrible and I felt helpless, but I can tell you this it hurts really bad, but remember to be strong for him because he is being strong for you. Just take it one day at a time, every second, every minute and every day/night and pray. It's all you can do. Kids are strong! A lady once told me when it was too much for me, God is not going to give you more than you can handle. This took lots of weights off of my shoulder. I couldn't believe it. I was able to handle the situation without struggling so hard man. Be strong for the little fella man, if you need to talk I'm here for you, I been through it. Kent

Thank you all. Little Harry will, through the grace of God, the power of love, and the genius of his doctors beat this because there is no other acceptable alternative. Kiss your kids as often as you can. Harry's a Hoya. That means he's a fighter. My prayers are with you.

breaks my heart to read things like this but the consolation is that it will make the joy you will have when he is healthy again all the more sweet.
from one parent to another, my thoughts are with you and your family

I echo all the sentiments in this thread, your family and your son will surely be in all our thoughts and prayers. As a parent, I cannot imagine the challenge you are facing, but know, simply by reading these posts that you have support all around you which can help provide your family and especially your son the faith and power to overcome all obstacles.

I was hoping that you were going to tell us that he chose Syracuse over Georgetown. I hate hearing about children that are sick. But know that we will be lifting up you, your son, and the rest of your family in prayer.
Know that we serve an AWESOME God, and I wish peace, blessings, and God's Grace to you and your family.

Thanks to all of my brothers and sisters on this board. My little man is hanging tough and will begin chemo on Tuesday. First comes a Monday surgery to put in his line which will also harvest his marrow cells for the marrow replacement stage of his care.
But what I want to focus on today is how cool my 5 year old is. As a seminarian from St. Charles was praying with us today and asking St. Joseph's intercession in helping Harry to grow in faith, and serve the Lord's will, Harry looked up from his bed and in a tired, somewhat exasperated voice, said "how about the getting better part?"
Suffice to say, the prayer was interrupted by laughter (first good one in 10 days) and my already infinte love for my son increased just a little bit.
Thanks to all for your prayers. HE hears you, and so do Harry and our family.
