Sam Jefferson.....not only the inexcusable foul against the Cuse that cost us a game in the Dome, but he also had a moment in Pittsburgh. I believe it was 88' at Pitt and we were about to lose when a brawl erupted and the game ended with time on the clock. We were Georgetown and tough. We had Mr.Golden Gloves, Perry McDonald mixing it up with the Panthers. Next thing I see is a shot of Sam Jefferson with a bloody nose. Man, we're Georgetown. You couldn't be a Hoya, at that time, and let somebody be more physical than you. If there's a top 5 for least liked Hoyas, he's on that team.

At least Sam got his nose bloodied. Everyone talks about the Cuse game-which was an awful moment--but Sam contributed in games as well--he and Jonathan Edwards game against Duke in '89 East Regional was helpful and he provided good minutes for the Reggie and Miracles team his FR season.
Sam should NEVER be included in a Grady Mateen thread. Mateen was the wimpiest Hoya in all my years following the team. Why he chose Georgetown is baffling? He wasn't physical. He wasn't aggressive. He wasn't built for Big East or Big 10 play--he played a lot like Brittany Griner--but problem was he wasn't tallest girl on the court--he was in men's basketball and flat out sucked.
Mateen still gives me nightmares. Along with Day Jack missed layups, a 35 year old Joe Toumou scissor kick defense, Rhese Gibson getting minutes, Jerrelle Benimon passing from the wing, Austin Freeman inbounds passing, Ed Sheffey driving school, Joey Brown shooting, Esherick on the sideline, Dave Cox on the sideline, standing in line behind Bill Shapland at a Buffet, etc.....

Why he chose Georgetown....why did Georgetown choose him. Joey Brown shot better left handed, should have stuck with it.

I once saw him take a three from the top of the circle that hit the backboard under the rim. That is nearly impossible to do. On Mateen's toughness, let's not go overboard -- with some kids it's not a character thing, they either have it or they don't. And Pascal Fleury might have been worse.

RDF - hahaha - that brings back some really horrid memories. Would only add nightmares about Kenny Brunner's samauri sword, Eric Myles getting in the game, immediately shooting (and usually making) a 3, and then getting promptly benched by Pops, Anthony Jones shooting free throws, Terry Fenlon's hot dogging at end of games, and Berry/Hester/Hillier all getting significant minutes.

Hester played pretty well in the NIT overtime game against Virginia. What can JB do that Hester couldn't?

LeRoy - I think the word "NIT" in your post pretty much makes my point about nightmare memories.
As for JB, I'm not convinved that he's any better than Hester. And depending on the outcome of this season, there may be new nightmares added to the list. Or maybe we can turn this thing around and create some sweet dreams...
