I know GU is different from UNC and one can make the case that the compliance group at GU is better than UNC, etc. etc. but I can't help but believe that when the AD and the staff at GU have the discussions of whether we should move the FB team up to D1 level one of the issues isn't the stress that a full sized D1 FB team trying to compete in the BE would put on the academic support systems in the university. Trying to get enough big time FB players into the university and then the stress of trying to keep them eligible. With that what is going on at another perceived high end academic institution like UNC has to be on their radar screen. Yea it is public and a lot larger but the stress and temptations are the same. sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=5501067In addition to the fuss over agents paying for trips and hotel rooms they are now dealing with an academic scandal where tutors were writing papers for the players. They now have 7 or so starters playing on the scout team until this gets cleared up. Supposedly the best scout team D in the country But the AD and chancellor are scheduled for a press conference tonight. Probably going to get real ugly real fast. While facilities and funding are obviously the biggest tactical hurdle to a D1 FB team right now, I continue to believe that this strategic issue of do they want the stress of a competitive D1 FB team on a small campus/student body is as big an issue to moving the program up. Just IMHO.

North Carolina is a huge public university whose other sports, on the whole, have great graduation rates. Seems like they were skirting the law, at best, in this case.
As for GU, eh. Other schools of a similar size, academic stature, and athletic level do it successfully, and there's no reason that the Hoyas couldn't, too.
