One of the unique figures in World War II died this week, Scottish infrantryman Bill Millin. Of all the soldiers who took part in D-Day, Millen didn't carry a gun, only a set of bagpipes, serving as the official piper to rally the Scottish troops in the epic invasion. On the orders of his commander, the unarmed Millin played across the beach as the troops arrived, and for the many that died there, a feat of bravery not lost among his fellow soldiers and countrymen. Despite being an obvious target of every German sniper within the sound of the pipes, Millin not only survived D-Day unharmed, but lived to the age of 88. www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2010/08/20/AR2010082005465.html
