USA: 42% Conservative

A Gallup poll reports 42% of Americans identify themselves as conservative:

Inside the Beltway, however, 42% of DC residents identify themselves as liberal:

The most interesting aspect of those numbers might be people's greater willingness to self identify as a conservative as opposed as to calling themselves a liberal, which seems to have a much greater negative connotation attached to it.

Apples and Oranges.

DC is a city, and urban areas - even in the 10 most conservative states - tend to lean liberal. You could easily find 42% liberals in New Orleans or Jackson or Montgomery if you just polled the city and not the entire state.

And I like that Gallup has decided to weigh in on DC Statehood
