Warning - the image shown at the link below is graphic. I'll crib from the first few sentences of the article: "Our cover image this week is powerful, shocking and disturbing. It is a portrait of Aisha, a shy 18-year-old Afghan woman who was sentenced by a Taliban commander to have her nose and ears cut off for fleeing her abusive in-laws. Aisha posed for the picture and says she wants the world to see the effect a Taliban resurgence would have on the women of Afghanistan, many of whom have flourished in the past few years." www.time.com/time/world/article/0,8599,2007269,00.html

Ouch - that hurts just looking at her.
I am abhored at what the Taliban has and is doing in Afghanistan. To women and to men as well (hung for multiple minor offenses). I would love to see it stopped.
But selling the Afghan war as a "women's liberation" war is a step beyond Bush's democracy uber alles partial rational for the Iraq war. Both certainly have long term benefit for the US but I see both as very secondary to the types of core strategic interests that should be required before committing troops and money.
