So it doesn't clutter up the where's Greg going thread or the playoffs thread.
Thoughts on the draft? I'm pretty sure that we saw an NBA franchise die tonight, b/c the last shot the TWolves had to hold anyone's interest in MN was getting one of the top two picks.

Yawn ... The Wizards get the top pick and there doesn't seem to be a clear cut favorite. I am admittedly not familiar with the Wizards' roster, but everyone seems to be saying that Jon Wall is the #1 and most seem to peg Evan Turner at #2, although I am sure we will start hearing about some foreign guys we've never heard of with 17 consonants in their last names, very, very soon.

Trade the loser "Agent Zero"--which equates to his ability to lead a team, and draft John Wall.

Who is it that you think is going to take Gilbert's contract? He has 4 years and over $80 million left. No one will touch him, Les Boulez might as well see if he can come back and play a little. It's not like he is a true point, so have him start next to Wall, or bring him off the bench as your third guard. It will still be an awful team, but they are stuck with that disastrous contract for at least another 3 years, until it becomes "Gilbert Arenas' expiring contract" and might hold some value to a team looking for cap space.

NBA teams are pretty stupid. I'm pretty sure a smart owner like Ted can trick someone into taking him off our hands. Like maybe a desperate Knick's team that whiffs on Lebron and all the other free agents and is looking desperately for a "star player"/ big name.

Some team would take Arenas as the "final piece" and give him a "chance to redeeem himself"--my question is from what? What's he done to be considered an elite player? Having a scoring binge 5 years ago doesn't matter and carrying teams to 2nd Round Playoff exits has been done time/time again.
Just pathetic how so many people are seen as "elite" players and don't have any concept of what it takes to be one.

The biggest mistake NBA teams make is paying non-Elite players max dollars. Arenas is the textbook example and contracts like his cripple teams.
Teams are better off letting good talent go than paying them that. Just watch Golden State with Monta Ellis. He's a nice player, but if they pay him to stay, they are morons.

Arenas does seem like a natural fit for the Knicks. They tend to screw up right when you think they might finally be on the right track.

No one is dumb enough to just take Arenas' contract simply on the chance he would help their team. The only way he goes is if Washington takes back an equally awful albatross of a deal, and unfortunately that albatross does not currently exist. Even Elton Brand's remaining 3 years and $50+ million is far more appealing today and the Sixers would never do that deal.
Basically something catastrophic will have to happen involving another player on another team first before there is equivalent negative value in return, or the Wizards will have to give away an actual asset along with Arenas and still take a horrible contract in return. So unless you want to lose John Wall just to send Gil packing, you are stuck with him.
