Ah, I guess different schools have different rules.

PS Why does Coach Starsia (that is the UVA coach right?) Allow his players to drink during the season. I mean that wouldn't have stopped George since he broke those rules throughout High School but at such a prominent and successful program you would think the coach would want the player's bodies in top shape Seen the lacrosse polls lately? That's why. If a coach wants to get the very top talent, he's gonna try to straddle the line as close as he can in terms of the players' academics, physical conditioning, and, er, "extracurriculars." I'm not saying he approves of the kind of stuff that goes on, but there is a lot of willful "head in the sand" ignorance and self-deception that goes on in these contexts.

Lots of good points in this discussion. Also a lot of stuff that is just plain sad.
The scary thing about the liquor issue is that it clearly effects different people different ways. I don't think I've ever done anything while drunk/tipsy that I wouldn't have done anyway on a dare. On the flip side, I have friends that are complete a-holes or just plain crazy (though not physically violent to women) when they're drunk. I don't know what the solution is (though changing the age back to 18 is a start) but I'm quite sure dry campuses would not fix the problem. St. Mary's was a dry dorm when I was in school and I can assure you that you wouldn't be able to tell that by inspecting rooms.
