When you get to the Sweet 16, you might have to play one of the top 16 teams in the nation. That's kind of how it works.
OSU is fine, but the Hoyas have 4 wins over the top 12 teams in the tournament. OSU has zero. If anyone should be worried about that match-up, it's the Buckeyes.

if you guys went to the BET youd know that WVU fans travel well. New York is very close to WVA relatively speaking. Plus it's a desirable destination to go to for someone from the middle of nowhere Morgantown. Anywhere is a desirable destination compared to Morgantown. Well, yeah, it sucks to be in Kansas' bracket, but I'm sorry, Tennessee and Ohio State don't really scare me all that much. Yes, they're good teams, but if we play the way we played the BET, we'll beat both of those teams, should we end up meeting them. If we don't we could easily lose, but as we've seen all season, it doesn't take a good team to beat us if we're not playing well. (sorry for all the "we"s) In other words, Georgetown's success -- at least for the first three games -- will be determined entirely by Georgetown, not by the opponent. But yeah, even if all those games work out, Kansas is a bitch no matter how well Georgetown is playing. This Tennessee can't shoot and they're not even that great a rebounding team this year. Honestly, I like that match-up for us. Overplaying man defense and poor shooting on offense? Gotta like the Hoyas. I actually think they could lose to SDSU. Ohio is awful. No way that game should be close. And This Tenn beat KU and UK, yes, but they are not as good as that makes them seem. They also lost to Georgia and USC. They didnt lose many games because they didnt play anyone (like kentucky but that is for a different time). All the good teams they played (Kentucky, Vandy, Purdue) they lost to. San Diego has a fifty percent shot to win this. What i find extraordinary is how teams from other conferences are propped up on their conference records when if they played in the big east they would maybe win 7 games. Im looking at you Baylor. Also BS is how they match up good mid major teams in the first round. Cornell and temple is a crap match up for both of them. They can both easily beat a team like Baylor but they bot have to play each other. Texas/Wake <<<< Cornell/Temple I wish they would make the committee up of retired hall of fame coaches. Knight, Thompson, Wooden, etc would do an amazing job picking the teams and would always get it right.

From the Ohio message board: "No doubt we got the worst 14 seed, but we have the advantage at least when it comes to coaching." Who's their coach? JOHN GROCETHE GROCE FILE Hometown: Danville, Ind. Education: Taylor University (B.S., Mathematics, 1994) Collegiate Athletic Experience: Basketball (Taylor, 1991-93) Coaching Experience:Ohio University (Head coach, 2008-Present) Ohio State University (Associate head coach, 2006-08) Ohio State University (Assistant coach, 2004-06) Xavier University (Assistant coach, 2001-04) Butler University (Assistant coach, 2000-01) NC State University (Assistant coach, 1996-00) Taylor University (Assistant coach, 1993-96)

Ohio State Gets Two Seed In Bracket Of Death www.ourhonordefend.com/2010/03/ohio-state-gets-two-seed-in-bracket-of-death.phpAt this point, I don’t have much insight to provide other than to marvel at the depth of this bracket compared to the laughable one that Duke heads. The bracket has the no. 1 overall seed, Kansas followed by the no. 2 Buckeyes, which has the leading candidate for the Naismith Award. Beyond that, the no. 3 seed is Georgetown, which has a strong post presence in Greg Monroe and is catching fire at exactly the right time. The no. 4 seed is Maryland, the co-champs of the ACC and no. 5 is Michigan State, coached by Tom Izzo (one of the best, if not the best, tournament coach around). No. 6 is Tennessee, who boasts victories over two no. 1 seeds (Kansas, Kentucky). Further, the winner of the 7-10 matchup — Oklahoma State (who beat Kansas) or Georgia Tech — provides the Buckeyes (likely winners over UC Santa Barbara) a tougher matchup than they would get from any of the other 7-10 matchups (Clemson-Missouri, Richmond-Saint Mary’s, Brigham Young-Florida).
Very exciting for the basketball fan, but one wonders how the Selection Committee managed to load so much into one bracket. Compare the talent pool of the Midwest to the talent pool from South. The Midwest has Evan Turner, James Anderson, Xavier Henry, Cole Aldrich, Greg Monroe, Derrick Favors and some quality players like Chism and Hopson from Tennessee. The South, by comparison, does not appear to have a lottery pick.

They just need to throw out the stupid ass S-curve. It just doesnt make any sense. Just say that you need to work around regions and conferences and call it a day. There is no way you can tell me that OSU is the last 2 seed? That is absurd. It seems geographical issues are considered more than just having the #1 overall play the #8 overall....I don't think OSU is the last 2 seed, I think OSU is a 2 seed and they are in the midwest, so they get put in the midwest region. And the committee didn't want to put KSU in the same region as Kansas. I also don't think Nova was ahead of WVU on the S Curve, so my guess is "well, WVU is the best #2 seed and they're in the east, so we'll put them in the east"...the selection committee dude on CBS said they considered WVU as a #1, so they had to be #5 on the S-Curve.

It's not a great draw, but it's not horrible. The bummer is being stuck with Kansas. That won't even matter if Gtown can't advance that far. Tennessee is on par with Marquette and ND. OSU is on par with the other 2 seeds. Would I rather be a 2 with Baylor as a 3? Sure. But the Hoyas lost 10 games. They could have avoided this fate with wins over USF, Rutgers, etc. This is how I feel about it. Yeah I'm cheesed that Nova got a #2, especially in that bracket, when they have been in a freefall. If I was a WVU fan, I'd be completely Editeded. WVU has been far better than Nova down the stretch. As for us, first things first, we need to come out and take care of Ohio. If we get Tenn, we'll have to come out and play because that team is very athletic. But they're far less deep than they used to be, and I don't think they really present any insurmountable matchup problems. They've got a host of good players, but no standout star like Tyler Smith. If we take care of the ball in that game, I like the way we're defending and I'm confident about it. OSU would be a tough matchup if we get there. Turner is without a doubt the POY, and Buford's a very good player too. But let's not make them out to be perfect either. They barely got by Michigan and Illinois. Doesn't make them bad, but doesn't make them unbeatable. That's going to be a knockdown drag out fight, but so would any of the #2 seeds. And if we got KU in the elite 8, well no one's going to hand you a spot in the FF. So yeah, it's a tough draw. But this year has been, and will continue to be, about us. If we play and defend and hustle and work like we did this week, then I like our chances against anyone. If we come out resting on our laurels because we've been good, then I'm nervous about Thursday. Let's do what we need to do and let the chips fall where they may.

I like this quote from the Ohio message board:
"I do like the fact that we are facing a team we can possibly run on. If DJ and Armon start the break and push it can lead to some easy buckets with the big guys lagging in the back court."
So who wants to break the news to them that we scored 89, 91, and 103 in wins over #1 seed Duke, #1 seed Syracuse and #2 seed Villanova? Go ahead and try to run on us, you'll lose by 40.

It would have been nice to have some margin for error, however. Somebody is going to get into foul trouble, somebody is going to go inexplicably cold from 3, etc.

Interesting that Gtown beat Cuse and Duke and Tenn beat the other two no. 1 seeds.
Also, Ohio fans, sorry if you think we are being arrogant. It is just hard to believe that the upset will happen. Now granted i have only ever watch one Ohio game so im not an expert. But with your lack of size stopping Monroe will be tough. Youre boy Bassett will and could have an unconscious game to pull of the up set. The fact is it is hard for us as Gtown fans to know that this teams has beaten four of the other top 16 teams and to be worried about losing to the 9th seed from the MAC.

And of course also in the Final Four in 2007 (for some reason I never think about playing Ohio State in that game, I just think about playing Greg Oden). I'd say that this guy is probably unusually familiar with our system based on those experiences. And if we get through to the Sweet Sixteen, Gtown-Ohio State is like an annual occurrence now.

I have a 10 yr-old hockey tournament Is that like the Hundred Years' War? Squirt level hockey. Like the Hoyas, they got to the final and lost.

Groce is Matta's recruiting genius -- the guy behind the Oden-Conley-Lighty class. I don't know if he's a good coach or not.
While I'm sure Ohio is a good team, they were still a surprise entry into the tournament. Of course we have to take them seriously, but as far as first round opponents go, it could have been worse.
Duke/Villanova have a gift-wrapped run (and if I were WVU, I'd be Editeded). Except Nova may struggle with Richmond.
I don't see anyway Maryland has any shot beating Kansas. Actually, if there were a playoff, would the six seeds beat the four seeds? I say yes.

Scared? really? i do not wanna read the word scared when it comes to whos in our side of the bracket. There is no team in the field that we should be in fear of. we played in the best conference in the country, and beat two of the four number one seeds. we will not be in awe of anyone. stop with the scared of whomever blah blah blah. we wernt even in the tournament last year so u aint gonna see me complain about who we might play. just happy to be in again. This got me fired up. In addition to the two ones, we beat a two, a three, and two fives.

I suspect the committee looked at some of our weaker losses and slapped our wrist. As cool, smooth Lester Freaman would say: "All the pieces matter." Love the Wire reference
