If we continue to show the composure and the intensity of last week - plus maybe a little more on the boards - their is no limit - none - to how far we go. We know JTIII will have these guys focused one game at a time, and the experience Chris and Austin had in the Davidson game 2 years ago will keep us from overlooking anybody. Hoya Saxa!

They didn't turn the ball over much in either game, and both teams missed their 3's. Kentucky was 2-22 and Kansas was 7-27. When they beat Kansas, they were 9-18 on 3's. Against Kentucky, there were only 6-25 but 22-34 inside the arc. Looking at the ESPN PBP, those were almost all layups and dunks, no jumpers. Tenn. was also on some crazy emotional high during the Kansas game because they had basically 7 guys on the roster at that point (hence by Pearl's son gets so much playing time and he got tons that game). With Kentucky, Tenn played them three times, much like Gtown and Cuse and just like Gtown and Cuse the lower ranked team won once, Tenn's win just happen to come during the reg season. (not to mention Kentucky is the most vulnerable one seed i have ever seen and could easily lose to anyone in the field with a good coach and video review staff) B52, who is off the roster at Tenn? I couldnt keep up with who left for good and who came back. Which players left for good from the opening roster? I'm not sure who left in the off season, but the key loss during the year was Tyler Smith getting kikcekd off the team for his role in a gun/drug incident. There were two other guys as well. One was reinstated back a ways. I'm pretty sure the 3rd guy is also back on the team, but not positive. In any case, they have been withou Tyler long enough for it to not really matter. They are streaky, as someone pointed out. But they are athletic and even though they are not especially "big," they are very long.

I think only Smith is gone.
They have Bobby Maze, Wayne Chism (who will be able to hang with Monroe better than most), some length with JP Prince, etc. They still have that Tatum dude who killed us.

Ohio State will not have played a team in the RPI top 50 in a full month by the time the tournament starts. In that same time frame GU has played 6 teams in the top 50. It's hard to complain about getting them as a number two seed. Tennesse won 7 of 8 going into the Kentucky game in the SEC tournament. That is going to be a war.

I'm a little stunned by all the Tennessee talk in this thread, and not just because it's clearly titled "#3 Georgetown - #14 Ohio 1st Rd. Discussion." All year we've been sick at the way this team seemed to look past lesser opponents. Now Greg's on Twitter saying, "I won't talk about any team but Ohio"--clearly the right mindset--but all sorts of posters on here are on to Round 2.
And that's to say nothing of the fact that Tennessee may not win their first round game. SDSU beat New Mexico twice and matches up well against Tennessee. They also match up well against us. Both of those teams are underrated in this tournament. No sense gameplanning for one right now, especially when our own history this season says we need to focus on Ohio.

I agree 35556, but it has more to do with the lack of a "Bracket Analysis" thread, not disrespect to Ohio. Look at the front page. The closest would be the "Seeding" thread. After going through the past regular season, we clearly know that no team can be overlooked. This thread has turned into an analysis of the Midwest Bracket and our potential opponents.

YES!!!So does the order in which I put on my socks on a game day. And the exact volume number to which I dial my TV when the game starts. And my Facebook status. Come to think of it, it has been far too long since I said something mean about John Feinstein.

Of course I don't think the chatter on here is going to affect how the team prepares. I also think eyeroll emoticons are for teenage girls, but that's neither here nor there. What I do think, however, is that his board would completely and totally MELT DOWN if the Hoyas lost to Ohio, and all the talk on here would be a bunch of firebrand rhetoric about how the coaches and players looked past the team. And I think that'd be ironic and hypocritical, so I'm just pointing it out now rather than later.
My point was not that our chatter on here is going to hurt the team. (Was that really unclear?) My point was that there's a game we actually DO have to play on Thursday, and we could probably talk more about that. You are quite right that we could instead debate a future game that might or might not happen. We could even continue to do it in a thread that is purportedly about the real game on Thursday. We could do any of those things without affecting the outcome of the game one bit. I just think that idea is lame. I enjoy the first two rounds of the tournament a lot. I enjoy learning about a new team. I enjoy talking about how we're going to play them. I enjoy it because then, when the game comes, I know more about the Ohio Bobcats than the fact that Wayne Chism is the best player on Tennessee and Smith is gone now.
Case in point: Yesterday, seconds after the brackets came out, Chris Wright was already talking about the starting PG for Ohio and how talented he is. Considering we've never played Ohio in our history, and that we were still smarting from the BET, I can't tell you how impressed I was by that.

After going through the past regular season, we clearly know that no team can be overlooked. This thread has turned into an analysis of the Midwest Bracket and our potential opponents. This was exactly my thinking when I derailed this thread. Sorry to have gotten us away from Ohio, but I was curious what others thought of the rest of the MidWest bracket, since I didn't know as much about some of the teams. I would be happy to have another thread started to discuss that and keep this one to Ohio. Like others, I would love to know more about Ohio as well. And in regards to some of those saying Tenn shouldn't overlook SDSU, I completely agree. I am actually leaning toward picking that upset. I had just asked about the 3 teams in our bracket that I could see as the major stumbling blocks for us (for very different reasons in each case) -- it just happened that they also are the "chalk" path to the Final Four for us. I don't think we should overlook anyone, but I will be very surprised if we don't beat anyone else in that bracket.

We probably should talk about Ohio, but who knows anything about them? I haven't seen them play, haven't seen Armon Basset take a shot in 2 years, etc. What am I supposed to say about how we match up with Ohio?

Based on what happened in the BET and all the comments that were made by the team throughout the week, I really do feel that our players are genuinely focused.

I haven't seen them play, haven't seen Armon Basset take a shot in 2 years, etc. What am I supposed to say about how we match up with Ohio? That is actually what makes me a little nervous. As the Bobcat fans pointed out on their board, their coach was on the bench for two big tournament games against us. He knows what to expect from the offense (albeit not these players). They seem to be thin down low. I think, based on paper alone, that their two best players are both guards (Bassett and Cooper), which I like a lot for us. I think Chris and Jason can guard anyone, and if they don't have depth down low we have great mismatches to exploit. They have a junior named Tommy Freeman who only scores 10 a game but is shooting 47% from 3. Not knowing much else about them, he's already the player (and that's the statistic) that worries me the most. Clearly we're the better team, so the most likely scenario for an upset involves a shooter getting red hot. He's got to be the most likely candidate.
