ouch, you called me gutless while mischaracterizing my argument - I am so hurt. You are questioning CW's effort. I say your wrong. I don't care what you "know" about basketball, life or insulting people over the internet. Keep it to yourself and don't come around here all high and mighty unless you can say EXACTLY what you are talking about. I think that is pathetic when these kids live and die for us. Until you cite chapter and verse - "at 12:15 in the WVU second half CW took a nap on D - your general and possibly well informed (though definitely poorly expressed) "sense" that our backcourt slacks on D means nothing to me. End of conversation. "End of Conversation"-- deleted? Have you not seen the numerous comments of what is wrong-if not, here you go--this is what is wrong/needs to be changed about Georgetown Defensive basketball: 1. Guards repeatedly get beat off the dribble/let their guy get around them into paint to penetrate and it forces bigs to rotate/step up and then guards--Wright and Clark dont' slide down to help big with his man after he's rotated over. 2. Shot is made--and Chris Wright hangs his head. 3. Jason Clark plays about 2 seconds of tough on the ball defense, and then his man goes by him/he loses him off the pass and no rotation by any guard--ball goes inside--and big who has to hedge outside 40 feet from basket can't rotate back--and easy dunk takes place. 4. Wright hangs his head in dejection or rolls his eyes at teammates (note he's not alone as Greg Monroe often yells at someone too--usually Vaughn) 5. Wright/Clark often get caught in offensive end of court when other hoists a shot--and there is no floor balance. Teams get easy breakouts for dunks/layups, and draw fouls on team who lacks depth. Something you are taught in youth basketball as a guard--but why does that matter? 6. Jason Clark--who has become a 3pt shooter and guy who loves to overdribble will throw one of his sloppy passes out front with overspin, and then ball is stolen as he/Wright jog back to let opponents score, or the infamous "swipe" at ball which results in 3-pt play or them picking up a foul and then more glares at each other. 7. My LEAST favorite/biggest offense, there will be a loose ball on the court, and Chris/Jason will stand and bend at waist to try and pick it up. I saw one guy (Hollis Thompson) go after the ball like the expectations at Georgetown should be--he sold out his body and dove on ground and got after it. Those 50/50 balls used to ALWAYS BE HOYA possessions. Now, we're lucky if a team doesn't get a 10 point swing due to getting ball, making a hoop, dejecting the guard--and I'm bringing up Wright because he's playing the LEAD GUARD position--and that means team feeds off him and he droops his shoulders and sulks. If you would like specific examples--you can watch the entire Month of February in Big East play. If giving up 90 something points to Nova in a win is great defense--well you can have it or to translate to deleted "Like oh my god, that defense is like so not like what like Georgetown used to like do, but like who cares, because Chris is like such a good guy that he like, can't like be criticized you know?". Teams contend/win championships on defensive end and playing as a unit. When you have breakdowns--someone has to take charge--and as the leader--you can't hang your head, sulk, bitch/moan about calls/lack of, and you certainly should lead by example--which means digging in on defensive end and making sure that defense is important to everyone. When Georgetown shows flashes of it--they can play/beat anyone--so that means that they have ability to do so--which is why I'm critical of the half assed play that has shown on defensive end of court. I singled out Wright/Clark--because they have stunk--but Wright is only guy who seems to be "protected" due to his outburst that just showed me why this team is so weak mentally. Things don't always go your way and it's what you do about it, and I'm sorry but the leader of the team/PG can't be a guy who is checking out boards/social networks to make sure he didn't get put on blast. MOD NOTE: make your points without resorting to insults directed at other posters.

RDF: your basketball criticisms and points are often well-taken. However, your proclivity to pepper your posts with insults directed at posters you disagree with and at players seriously detracts from your message.
I get it - you want the players/team to improve. We all do. You can get that message across without calling other posters things like "female dogs" and the like. People can legitimately have differing opinions about performance on the court and we can discuss it without the extra stuff.

I think i'm starting to wrestle with the young and inexperienced argument. Yes, Chris is a junior, but again, his freshman year was basically a wash.
Losing Freeman was the biggest blow to this team. He is the only that is most experienced, but also he is the only one that has composure and poise.
RDF makes a great point about lack of composure with our guys.
And Chris's response to fans is indicative of his lack of poise during adverse times, not just for him, but his team.
Other players tend to do this during the course of a game, when things don't go their way.
Its also what i noticed last year with this team. If things aren't going right offensively for us, then we cave, get frustrated, start to mope, bicker, etc.
Now is this an inherent flaw in our players on the team that won't change? I can't say. Maybe we have to wait another year or 2, till guys get more experience.
but...
I think that is why a guy like Vee Sanford, and his lack of early playing time is an enigma for some.
If you read Vee's body language, he is one of the few guys that plays with enthusiasm on the court. He has an extra bop in his step when he is moving about. He is mentally in the game, and not just when he is shooting the basketball.
this all ties into, what is the mental makeup of our team, and the majority of our players.
Are we like the Dallas Mavericks or Wizards before the Gilbert debacle in the NBA? Our entire existence is based on the offensive side of the ball?
Now is this who are? Or is this just a phase we must go through and learn from to realize defense is attitude, and when there are nights that our shots don't fall, we still can make up our minds to dig in and play some D?
This is what i'm wrestling with, with this team.
I'm starting to lean towards the fact that III has recruited guys that just care about offense. And, i'm starting to wonder where exactly is III's head at in all of this, because he did recruit all of these guys. And from his statements, he is adamant about how good we are as a team.
I'm quite sure III has been getting an earful from Pops. Maybe during his 1st 4 years here, when all the stars aligned right, he could just let it go in one ear and out of the other.
But now? Its time for III to start taking heed from the man who built the standard of what this program is about.

Pops is still on the GU payroll right? Why can't we have him at the practices as a "defensive consultant"

Pops needs to lay down the law if his son can't. Players used to leave it all on the line on the defensive end for pops, whether they were gifted offensively or not. The defensive minded players got the minutes (think Gene Smith, Charles Smith in his first years, Wingate, Tuomo sp?, Patrick, Mourning, Mutombo, Ried...not vice versa.
With regard to Chris... I'm so tired of this thread, can't imagine what he must feel like if he's reading this. Note to Chris....shut this thread down by leading us to victory against a team we should be able to beat.

The quality of this thread has truly deteriorated. A kid respectfully responding to a negative post on his facebook page or Twitter is somehow indicative of a lack of poise/thin skin/spending too much time on social media? Not!

The guy who couldn't be bothered to recruit and barely coached his own team the last four years of his career? We're relying on him to whip this team in shape? Great plan.

RDF has now posted about ten times in this thread and used thousands of words to reiterate and defend his point about Chris Wright after a few posters disagreed with him.
Probably not the best poster to be lecturing people about having thin skin.

Is this thread even about Chris Wright anymore?
If it is, our next game is our biggest game (as always). It's not as though Chris is the only inconsistent player. I'm hoping that the whole team is going to show more consistency from half to half and game to game as this is the time of the year to do it. I agree that the team-wide D absolutely has to tighten up because if even one guy is missing his assignments, we get hurt. We also have to improve our offensive cuts. We can do it. We have done it. Let's play Georgetown ball and whup Cincy!

Probably not the best poster to be lecturing people about having thin skin. It's called answering posts--not thin skin. What people think of me doesn't matter one bit. Are we not supposed to answer when someone asks a question or responds? Why don't some of you "do gooders" get together, come up with some new rules and let rest of us know what the purpose of a Georgetown Basketball Discussion Board is? If it's just to kiss people's butts, make excuses, talk about mythical seasons due to Dungeon&Dragon's statistical analysis, then fine--and you won't see many people here anymore. If it's to have open discussion--whether you like someone's stance or not, then think what I've done in this thread is absolutely in line with purpose of the boards. Either way--telling the truth or hiding in sand won't matter if Chris Wright and company keep up the level of play they've shown in last month. It's up to them to pull together and play better and we all hope that happens.
