Sure is tough team to love. Just don't know how to win. They're 18-6, not 6-18! I'm frustrated just like everyone else but damn deleted.

I'm disgusted by this, though not totally surprised. Unfortunately, young teams with no depth of any kind are going to be prone to these kinds of egg-laying performances. That lack of depth is also going to keep the Hoyas from winning the Big East tournament or getting to the Final Four. Anybody reasonably believing otherwise at this point is kidding themselves. We're a top 5 team when we're on, and a 50/60 caliber team when we're not. Every player has to bring their A game every time out for us to succeed and most other teams don't have that kind of obstacle.
In another season I'd be yelling about our unaggressive, full shot clock defense and how it doesn't work when we give up rebounds, but we aren't a team that can afford foul trouble either.
I think this is a team with a lot of warts. I have no idea where the rest of this season is going. We could lose 3 more games in conference or none at all.

Also, I can't really remember a season like this where virtually every game we play (huge win by the Hoyas! Hoyas in shocking upset!) is top-story material.

I think I can skip the next 10 pages of this thread. People who come here to trash the team after every loss will have a field day. Lots of actual fans will melt down as well.
It's a bad, bad loss. Worst of the year by a mile. Lots and lots of small things that could have been done better would have changed the game in our favor. But the effort wasn't there and Rutgers wanted it more.
Hoyas need to get used to the idea that a top 10 ranking comes with taking everyone's best shot--and even a bad team giving you their best shot is worthy of respect and effort.
That said, the game is over. The loss doesn't impact Thursday or any other game this year unless the team lets it. Learn from this and use it as motivation, but otherwise put it behind you and move on.

Hoyas actually played well considering Rutgers was on fire, Mitchell and Miller had career games and Ndiaye was a force.
I though in the second half the Hoyas outplayed them as Rutgers cooled off. Hard to really comment on the 1st half since MASN only showed half of it but that was the bad half.
I think we gave the game away in the last two minutes: 1. Monroe's 3 Pt attempt that turned into an easy cherry pick layup for a 4 point swing.
2. Chris Wrights 27 FT 3Pt attempt with 20 seconds left and down by only 1. He was open but that was too far a shot, and they should have drove to the basket and gone for a two pointer. They did not need a 3 Ptr in that situation with nobody under the glass to get a rebound.

No one was great on offense tonight. Our D lost this one. You can't give up 70 to Rutgers. Ever. Great game by Mitchell. Make no mistake about it, III's coach decisions lost this game. We didn't have a rebounder in the game on the crucial put back and not calling a time out to get a red hot greg the ball was awful. Just awful

It's a bad loss but I think the Hoyas did show up to play. You have to give Rutgers credit they played a very good game. That was a much different team out there then the Rutgers that played at Verizon.
The Hoyas made two bad decision at the end of the game but it was still a very close game that could've gone either way.
I didn't get the sense that they just decided to give up like last year.

This one hurts a little more because I just can't believe we crap out on the double bye with teams like Marquette and Pitt on the driver's seat. What a joke. Well, I guess the good thing, like many said, is that we don't even have crappy teams to lose to anymore, so maybe we'll get the good version of the Hoyas the rest of the way.

Three things :
- It's hard to win on the road in the Big East especially in a packed-house weekend game. - I thought it was over when Monroe missed the three, which to me was the worst shot - Chris' wide-open look did not lead to a transition bucket on the other end. But they didn't - they came back and had the lead. Not boxing out killed us because even Fred Hill isn't stupid enough to pull a Esherick-vs.-UCONN and let Austin shoot a three. - Freeman is the MVP of this season, not even an argument

Here's my biggest problem right now. We have to stop it with the non-aggressive, take no chances defense. It's fine when they can't shoot against you (like say with a 7'2 guy), but this team is not limiting anyone's FG% nearly enough for us to play without gambling. We've got to start trapping, getting in passing lanes, something different. Because if we play everyone straight up, we just can't force them to shoot poorly enough to be to our advantage. We need turnovers and we have the guys who can do it. That hurt us today as Rutgers got a little hot, and we didn't force any turnovers.

Games like this (and USF, to a somewhat lesser extent) are when it becomes really apparent that we lack senior leadership to keep this team focused. It really looks like the players think that they can show up, ball, and win on talent alone. In some cases, that will happen - Rutgers is a glorified Rucker Park team and would probably finish 3rd in the SWAC - but it won't happen every time. I always felt that we had that same mentality in games last season too, e.g. Seton Hall, St. John's x 2, DePaul, etc.
Maturity can't be taught, it can only develop. Let's hope it develops in a hurry. Maybe the sense of urgency will be there from now on, since there aren't any more 'gimmes' left on the schedule.

Maybe it isn't constructive, but its mostly the case that people are just venting. I think that should be permitted after a loss of this caliber.

I don't post much but I am a lifelong Hoyas fan who spends my hard earned money watching them remotely from North Carolina every game and am making a solo trip up from North Carolina to see them at the Big East Tourney and if I want to vent, damnit, I am warranted in doing so and so are many others. I don't think the sky is falling but to have THREE so called McD All Americans on a top ten team that beat PUKE & NOVA and to lose to lowly, pathetic, sorry-###, horrible Rutgers is un-####ing excusable. I'm sorry, but those of us that have a vested emotional, historical & financial interest in the well being of this team have a right to tongue lash a p@@@@ a@@ performance like this. Give me a break. MAKE A FREE THROW!!! GRAB A REBOUND!!! GIVE A FRIGGIN' EFFORT please. I still love my Hoyas, always have and always will but this is ridiculous and they need to know this is unacceptable HOYA basketball. On to Cuse. And don't bash a fan. They deserve all the criticism this board gives them. They were uninspired and unfocused and an embarassment to Hoya Nation tonight. Beating Cuse can help heal this wound but it will take more...............

I don't really give a #### what anyone says about this post. I've been a Hoyas fan since I was 5 years old and have been following the team since Ewing. I've seen alot of pathetic performances but this ranks up there with the all time worst. I'm spending over a grand to come up from North Carolina and see you ####### for the Big East Tournament and I have no expectations now whatsover other than to enjoy the city because apparently it's the only thing that will actually show up. Beating Puke and Nova and whatever is crap compared to this monstroisty. I hope the starters reads this and realize how bad you make a lifetime Hoya feel. This is beyond ridiculous. You are a bunch of overrated panzies. Alot = a lot

We really cannot win a small game. Attended the game and I left not knowing what to think. It was weird because the only thing I could point to that was really poor, was the defense's consistency, RU just got too many easy looks for a team that really does not get them. But we out-rebounded them. We shot over 50%. We did some good things with Monroe, but the 2-3 still gives us fits at times.
All that said, I think the simplest explanation is CW struggled and when he struggles this team loses. It is a shame that a team can rise and fall with one player, but the Hoyas definitely need CW to play well to win. That puts a lot of pressure on Wright and I could see him during the game, after missing those FTs, cursing himself out. He plays with his heart on his sleeve and appears to be a great kid that sometimes seems to get too down on himself. I just hope he can find that balance between playing within his talent (which is more than enough for us to win) and trying to do too much.
On to the next one, Go Hoyas!

WHY WHY WHY didnot we go into greg on the blocks in the first half with the big guy for them out for like ten minutes or so on the bench and greg is still outside just a few questioins but its interesting those are two or three of all the hoyas highlites gregs missed three and chriss missed three. It's not often I agree with mrsixer, but why was Julian Vaughn not in the game on that last defensive possession? A lineup of Wright, Clark, Freeman, Thompson, Monroe is just way too small down low.
We can't afford to be playing Julian 24 minutes in my opinion. The guy has the best +/- number on the team, and we give up way too much when he's not out there.
