Chris Wright was wide open. That was a good shot and a good possession. Letting Miller sky for that rebound was the problem. I don't know who lost their man there - Hollis was shielding someone off so it wasn't him Monroe went up to challenge the shot on Rosario leaving N'Daiye open. Thompson saw that and had to leave Miller to box him out because Austin was a little late coming over from his man. If anything, it was a broken play because Monroe went out to challenge because he was guarding against our guards getting burnt by Rosario. This is a pretty bad loss. There is a lot of optimism about this team this year especially considering last year's performance. However, at the end of the day if we keep on dropping games to South Florida and Rutgers and others, the fact that we can take out elite 8 or final four caliber teams won't matter because we won't make it past the first weekend. Chris Wright was awful today and has struggled recently, especially with his shot. Everyone has seen him be a threat as a shooter so it's clearly mental. JT3 also did a poor job coaching today. Continuing to have a big man flash out on a pick in the first half resulted in open three after open three. We've also not solved our turnover problems completely and have started to see good ft shooter's miss crucial ft's at times. These are just observations from today, but they're becoming a staple of our conference play. That either means 1) fatigue is starting to get to some of our players 2) We just aren't as good a team as our ranking or as we may have thought or 3) we still have a lot to learn and can during the rest of conference play. I hope its the third option. Regardless, while I'll be rooting like crazy to extend cuse's losing streak, the more crucial games that will tell us what our team is made of will be the games against Louisville, Notre Dame and Cincy because they'll show whether we've learned not to just play up to competition.

I hope this board is done with the BS threads every week about seeding, standings, and next year's team.... Bah humbug. Nothing wrong with having a little fun trying to predict the future. We live for tomorrow

Wright needs a swift kick up the ass. Hope the girls shut him out for a few nights or something to wake his ass up.
III did not have his best coaching day, no defensive adjustment for Mitchell who was carrying the team on his back, but really the team did not seem fired up either. No one was particularly bad on the team except Wright, never got that sense of urgency however, and while Hollis is busy busting his butt boxing out N'Daiye the monster no one else seems interested in getting the rebound.
You know I keep hoping when we lay these eggs that the team will learn something from it, but time and time again they show that they haven't. I really hope they take something from this game, that this kind of effort is unacceptable.

No one was great on offense tonight. Our D lost this one. You can't give up 70 to Rutgers. Ever.
Great game by Mitchell.

The offensive rebounding wasn't caused by a lack of boxing out, it was a lack of defense. Vaughn went out to contest Rosario's shot instead of being on his man, thus a man was left completely wide open in the corner.

Cuse fans must be licking their chops. You have until Thursday to figure out how to attack a zone III, better get on it.

I don't really give a #### what anyone says about this post. I've been a Hoyas fan since I was 5 years old and have been following the team since Ewing. I've seen a lot of pathetic performances but this ranks up there with the all time worst. I'm spending over a grand to come up from North Carolina and see you ####### for the Big East Tournament and I have no expectations now whatsover other than to enjoy the city because apparently it's the only thing that will actually show up. Beating Puke and Nova and whatever is crap compared to this monstrosity. I hope the starters read this and realize how bad you make a lifetime Hoya feel. This is beyond ridiculous. You are a bunch of overrated pansies.

Rutgers turned the ball over ten times against Caldwell and are averaging over fifteen a game. We forced eight. Lost the turnover battle to a team that is awful in this area, and not crashing the boards hard enough against a bad defensive rebounding team. Just baffling.

At some point 3 has to realize that Vaughn's recovery speed is too slow to continue to do this.

Chris's two misses were huge. We had a chance to go up 4 and establish a margin. Instead, he misses both, Rutgers makes theirs and goes on a run. The tip-in at the end was the play of the game, but the missed FTs were what set it up. Rutgers deserved this today. ![:(](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/sad.png)

If you've been a fan since Ewing, surely you felt the losses to St. John's last year or say the 6 men on the court game against Seton Hall were far worse than this?

Hoyas actually won battle of boards today, by slim margin. Looking at (surely inaccurate) ESPN box, what stands out is RU's lack of turnovers and lack of free points for Hoyas-FT rate (FTM/FGA) was worst it's been since loss @louisville in '08.

You got exactly what you wanted, which was the ball in the hands of a guy who was 3-15 and getting guarded fairly well. The most important thing there was simply to keep him from getting to the hoop. If he's going to make a circus shot from the free throw line, so be it. The goal was to make him miss, which means diddly squat when you don't give a crap about getting the rebound.

At the start of the year, I had the Hoyas down for a 10-8 conf record. I was hopeful early on they would be better but they have looked tired recently. The lack of a bench in Jan and early Feb is now hurting us. Today, Thompson got some good minutes but the inability to get loose balls and good D could be tired legs at this point in the season. Time to move on. Two bad, bad loses. We better get ready for the rest of the regular season. Not as confident about the Tournament now.

I don't normally give wins or losses to coaches, but the D's near-total focus on Rosario really turned out to be a bad strategy today. It was hard to believe how open Mitchell was for some of those shots.

No way you can put this on the officiating. If anything, the lack of calls probably played to our advantage, as we are (or at least I thought we were) the superior team athletically and skill-wise. But, when all our guys are playing in slow-motion, it really evens things up.
Like Dan said, they wanted it more, and it showed for 40 minutes. Eerily similar to the USF game, where the body language was poor throughout. And the worst part was, this team has no business even keeping it close with us. There was no Dominique Jones on the other side of the floor taking over during crunch time. Hell, Rosario shot 3 for 16!!! And don't give me this "it was great defense by CW" BS; Rosario was gunning from way behind the arc all game and is just plain not that good.
And please, no more talk about wake-up calls. This team is obviously not mature enough yet to focus on the task at hand. When motivated and inspired, they can play with anyone. We all know that. But the times when that's the case are becoming more rare as the season progresses. With the way this team acts, it almost feels like they would rather just play Cuse, at WVU, maybe a game or two at the BET, and otherwise mail it in the rest of the way until they're a 5 seed in the NCAA. And then they're going to think that they can just turn it on like a light switch when it matters. Well guys, it doesn't work that way.

On another note, CW is 3 for 22 (14%) from behind the arc since the first Rutgers game. His struggles have been somewhat masked because AF and JC have been killing it from outside. But this is even far from mediocre. It's going to be a long night on Thursday if this continues.

I predict that we will still beat Syracuse. I also predict that when we play a #14 seed in the first round of the NCAAs, I will be glued to the set as we are clawing to hold off a team we are 10x better than.
