I think the reference is to Eggerson's grades/academic standing leading up to his last year in the prep ranks. But I could be wrong.

IIRC, Egerson transferred in good academic standing to be dad full time. Big props from me to him for taking that step. I fail to see how that transfer "maybe could have been anticipated given his background". Did I miss something along the way?

Aside from copying and pasting DFW's list, I love this part: "John Thompson, the elder, was famous for running players off after they had served their purpose (ala Michael Graham)" Umm, yeah, we wouldn't have had a need for Graham in 84-85, or the following years.

Ah yes, we really exploited Nikita for all his glorious skills. Now that he has "served his purpose," we can dispense with him.

Of course, academics had nothing to do with him leaving.

Like they weren't happy when he had to leave... MG was the missing link to a second National Championship.

I'm sure Billy Edelin wishes them all a Merry Christmas. It is hard to get riled up over the SU analysis.
As to the larger GU transfer issue, it has been an ongoing issue and most recall, I hope, that there was not some sudden drop off the cliff when JT3 took the job. Of the incoming class in fall 2001, one person graduated of the four incoming players. I don't necessarily think anyone dropped the blame for Harvey Thomas at the previous coach's doorstep, much as I don't think, for different reasons, one can necessarily drop the blame for Egerson or Jeff Green on JT3's doorstep. For one thing, Jeff is finishing his degree by all accounts and may be credited toward our APR. Of the Causey recruiting year, we batted 50% depending on how you count Townes, and my recollection is fuzzy as to what happened there.

Why do we even care what SU fans think? Their program had a worst record of graduating its four year players than Maryland!
I remember early this decade there was a report of the percentage of black players who got their degrees from Syracuse and it was abysmal. Actually it was shameful and proved just how little Boeheim cared about his players' future once their service in his program was done. Don't know if things have gotten any better but considering the knuckleheads that regularly end up on the SU team I'm guessing probably not.
At least when a player at Gtown lasts to his final year he walks away with an education and a degree. Syracuse players tend to walk away with a few sweat suits, an orange headband and a rape charge.

Idiots. However, if you have a lot of transfers you do open yourself to criticism. I do think it hurts our academic reputation and the lack of depth can cause problems as the fatigue of the BE schedule takes its tole in Feb.

I don't think the transfer rate hurts our academic reputation in the least. If anything, it solidifies it as there have been guys who have left due to the academic workload. In other places like, I don't know, maybe the Cuse, academics aren't a problem. Do they have academics there? And, if so, what do you have to do to NOT be eligible?

Townes went to Arkansas when Ronny Thompson, who was recruting him, left Esherick and took a job with Stan Heath as his assistant.
