I couldn't believe that we had recruited a player named "Sleepy."

After recently re-reading some of my old posts from years ago (I recommend it, it's highly entertaining), I came across some comments I made in the summer of 2006, when I was worried about our three-point shooting. Cook, Bowman, and Owens had just graduated, and I wondered who would step it up. Wallace was just OK at that point, Sapp had been terrible from behind the arc, so I thought Thornton would the guy.
Oops.
(For those who don't remember, Josh Thornton transferred right before the 2006-07 season, which went just fine, from behind the arc and otherwise. ;D)

This pre-dates the board, but I remembered another one, way back when, when I promised people who hadn't seen him yet that Milton Bell had All Big East written all over him.
And some friends of mine and I also had this notion that David Edwards was going to be a superstar, so toward the end of the 1990 season, we decided to make some David Edwards t-shirts that we could sell on campus the next fall.

It hurts to type this. Halftime of the '85 championship game in Lexington stting there and saying no way Nova will continue to shoot 65% in the second half. Be careful what you wish for... they shot 90% in the second half. It still even hurts just to think about it.

Some good will come of these confessions.
Boz,
Will you swap David Edwards t-shirts for David Dunn t-shirts?

Some good will come of these confessions. Boz, Will you swap David Edwards t-shirts for David Dunn t-shirts? Oh, man, I don't have those anymore. I wish I did. I think we gave them all away to The Salvation Army or something.

After the UConn win last season, I said last year's team reminded me of the 05-06 Sweet Sixteen team.
Speaking of that team, I'm pretty sure I called Ashanti Cook a West Coast hack at one point. He became one of my favorite Hoyas of all time.

After the UConn win, I remember thinking we could go undefeated the rest of the BE regular season, with a win at Duke.

shouting "roy, no!" as he set to shoot the 3 in the final seconds vs uconn...only to find myself wildly cheering half a second later when he sunk it

> Not spending more time talking to Julian when we sat a table over from him at a Champp's like three weeks ago, before he started going berzerk in recent games.

I couldn't believe that we had recruited a player named "Sleepy." Me neither. Then I sat courtside and watched him torch Bob Knight's Indiana team in his fourth college game in Landover and realized the nickname was very inaccurate.

I think for me it was, "Holy , he's actually doing it..." I actually felt somewhat confident that it was going in. He was wide open, and he had just hit his first career three vs. Fordham a few games earlier.

When I turned to my father during halftime of the Kentucky semifinal game and said, "I can't believe the season is over." My father quick to look on the bright side in front of his 11 year old said, "Don't worry, Patrick is only a junior." Boy were we in for a surprise. Funny, but I remember watching that game with my father, turning to him at exactly the same time and saying that we had them right where we wanted them -- and completely believing it. Fast forward twenty-three years: I'm flying to Nashville for a wedding, dressed up for a pre-wedding event, planning to watch GU-OSU from the hotel just beforehand. I look across the aisle and see an OSU fan all decked out in gear, look at myself and realise that, in my haste, I had worn black pants, a red shirt and a black/white houndstooth jacket for the event. I totally blame myself for the jinx.

When I first heard that JTIII was being hired -- thought it was awful move driven by nepotism. The son of JT - an Ivy League coach with a weird offense - thought we were about to b/c DePaul.
