I understand the whole Pitt thing, but even I, who is generally calm about this stuff, is starting to get Editeded about some of these supposed "locks" What has villanova done besides beating Kansas, who after last night, looks beatable if a team plays a good game. I dont understand, why consistently in all of these polls etc we are third in the conference but getting skipped over for teams that are 4-6th! It just Editedes me off.

Well, Nova also has an RPI rank of about #20, which combined with their Kansas win, makes them a lock, barring a sub-.500 Big East record.

Not to poke fun, but I think your phrasing was funny: combined with. Perhaps you meant due to or solely caused by or thank their lucky stars they aren't bottom dwellers in the Big East and not even a passing thought to the selection committee because of one measely win vs a visiting. Just a thought.

Fair enough, although even if the Cats had lost to KU, they'd be ranked #35 in RPI, and solidly in contention for a bid, or at least the bubble.
And if they hadn't played KU at all, I'm not sure what that would do to their RPI, but if I were going to make that calculation, I'd have to remove Illinois from our schedule in return, and I don't have any desire to do that.

I agree but they are 5-5 currently...which by my calculations places them smack dab in 7th place in the conference. They are ahead of the formidable quintet of WV, SHU, SJU, RU and Prov. Way to go Nova, way to go.
An even more telling breakdown of their 5-5 record.
Their wins: vsWV, @prov, vsND, @ru, vsProv Their losses: @nd, vsGU, @bc, @uconn, vsSU
Our wins: @pitt, vsRU, @nova, vsND, vsSJU, vsSHU, @ru, vsWV Our losses: vsUConn, @su, @bc
Hmmmm....now tell me you don't see a big difference.

Down the blog, Pomeroy gives this explanation:
Exhibits A and B for why tourney projections are nearly pointless this far out are the Big East and Conference USA. It is really difficult to separate teams three through seven in the Big East. I just think UConn and Villanova are better teams than Notre Dame and Georgetown, but based on their resumes, any of them should get in with nine conference wins.

I think this happens to Georgetown a lot. People just don't seem to believe that their record means they're good. It's like how ESPN never shuts up about how UNC has the most talent and is mostly likely to win it all, even after losing a couple! The journalists know what they want to believe and continue to do so despite records not always aligning with expectations. I mean, Georgetown beat Nova! I think it's something about not being a run'n gun offense, Georgetown takes it slower, which probably makes pundits "no-fun"dits and think Gtown can't win. But they have won. I really want to get them in the top 25 just to get some media exposure. I'd like to see some highlights...

While I was as thrilled with our win at 'Nova as anyone else, let's not forget that 'Nova played that game without Jason Fraser. I wouldn't go around bragging that we are better than 'Nova. Let's just try and take care of business and let the rest of this stuff take care of itself.

they beat kansas w/o fraser... i don't consider that a legitimate qualification. fraser has been injury prone every year or playing around w/ stolen phone cards... nova played alot more games w/o him then w/ him
