What would define this season as successful for you?
# of wins? Just an NCAA birth? Sweet 16? Top 4 finish in the BE? Just beating Cuse?
This isn't an expectations thread. You can think we'll do better than this or you can think we'll do worse. Just lay out the minimum achievement we need to accomplish for you to consider this year a success and that anything less will be a disappointment and everything above will be gravy.
For me I think a successful season is a top 6 BE finish and a sweet 16. I went back and forth on this, but I don't think anything less than this would be satisfying.

You asking a minimum?
Top 5 in the BE and NCAA berth. I don't like to put success or failure on a single elimination tournament.

After last season, I would not overly disappointed with top 8 Big East and an NCAA appearance.
However, to be a true success, I'm with HSB: At LEAST top 6 Big East and Sweet 16.
Without looking too far into the future, I think we have a better chance to do big things this year than next year if we lose Monroe. So let's get it done.

I know I kept going back and forth between just the NCAA and a sweet 16. But i kept going back to how terrible i felt after 08. Of course to an extent it depends on the seed we get. I kept thinking asking for a SW16 was greedy especially after last year. But with how much talent we have I feel like if we put it together a sweet 16 is reasonable measure of success. I think it's more likely than us just sneaking into the tournament with a low seed and then getting bounced. I feel like we've either learned from last year or we haven't. We'll either be bad again and miss the tournament or we'll be good get a good seed and make some noise. I don't really see the middle situation happening. Of course it is possible, but i see that as a disappointment.

Beat Syracuse in the carrier dome Jan 25th. Then finish the season sweep at verizon center Feb 18, dealing a severe blow to the NCAA tournament hopes of the orange.

Unfortunately, anything less than 38-0 will be a season that falls short of expectations, to be accompanied by much wailing and the gnashing of teeth.

Never once being out-rebounded or out-hustled.

Undefeated + National Champion + Beat Duke by 40 + Beat Cuse by 50 + Consensus greatest team in the history of basketball, pro or college.
I'd like top 6 in BE, NCAA berth, and going back to playing good basketball.

RESULTS: Top 5 in the Big East Semis in the BET NCAA appearance, at least to the 2nd round.
PROCESS: High offensive efficiency, as always. One of the better turnover margins in the nation. At least +2 overall rebounding average.
INDIVIDUALS: Monroe does what it takes to get BE 1st Team honors. Wright is in the top 3 best A/TO ratios in the BE. Free's 12-15 foot game is unstoppable. Clark becomes an excellent press breaker. Nikita is good for 3 for 5 from 3 every night, and 6 for 8 against Cuse. Henry becomes a block-and-put-back machine. Hollis plays a glue-guy role.
= Success!

BE and NCAA champs... it's why you play the game.
Failure = not making the NCAAs
Anything in between is nice.

To me a successful season would be one with more wins than losses in the Big East, an NCAA invite and winning at least one game in the NCAAs.

Top 4 Finish in Conf. and BET Sweet 16 Signing Jelan Kendrick
That would be a "successful" Hoya Season -- and get us back on track after last year.

I'm with my buddy SirSaxa .. sweet 16 would be huge and at least 3rd or 4th in conf and BET(still feel that if the pieces fall in order we could win both)...landing Jalen would be the extra beyond sweet!

A win against Tulane. Not looking beyond that, and I hope the team isn't, either.

I think the only way we have an unsuccessful year is if we have a medicore season and do not change our recruiting because of it.
If we actually can rebound and play defense this year, then we'll have a good year. If we don't, it's obvious that accumulating talented 5-tool types is not working and we need someone who is just "more meanery" to quote lic.
Since absolutely none of this can happen until the end of the season, I'll sit back and watch us go 23-6 and make the Sweet 16 without much worry and the whole thing will take care of itself.
