Excellent ideas, Cambridge and Boz. They could even incorporate historic/endemic sports or events that evoke the host city.

On this topic, the award for most random collection of sports in one event has to be modern pentathlon. Where else in the wide, wide world of sports would you ever combine: *Pistol Shooting *Epee Fencing *200m Free Swim *Show Jumping (equestrian), and *a 3km Cross-Country Run The modern pentathlon is the five events that were considered to be the skills needed of an ideal soldier. They are the things needed for the soldier if he finds himself trapped behind enemy lines. The equestrian event however is actually different from normal equestrian events, in that the modern pentathlon requires that the competitor use an unknown horse in the race. General Patton once competed in the modern Pentathlon at the Olympics.
