Ugh...Well I'll just imagine that it's an extension of the Wizard of Oz lighting. Red slippers and the Yellow Brick Road.

Odd, to say the least. Why? It's a little troubling.

why wouldn't they make it emerald green for the Wizard of Oz? I thought the same thing, but really none of this whole story makes the least bit of sense to me.

Kind of like that deal about the PRC flag being reported as going up over the White House but it turned out to be nearby ... 60th anniversary of the birth of Communism in China, a country that still has "liberty issues" for its people, and one-child per couple rules with forced abortions, seems like an odd thing for America to celebrate. Maybe they threatened to foreclose our mortgage?

Pretty weird. Although on some occasions the ESB lights seem to be used more as a paid advertisement than as a simple commemoration. Even if that were the case here (is it possible PRC paid to have it done??), still weird/probably inappropriate. In any case, I've always found the notion of the ESB lights to be pretty interesting and unique: www.esbnyc.com/tourism/tourism_lightingschedule.cfm?CFID=35458886&CFTOKEN=4734574I especially like the election and Super Bowl lighting sequences. Cool stuff.
