Would he even have any eligibility left?
Also, not condoning the OU player, but what did the Boise State player expect when he taunted he guy and hit him on the shoulder? No response at all?

I think the BSU player got what he deserved (taunting is stupid), but now Blount is getting what he deserves, too.

Would he even have any eligibility left? He already transferred from a CC so i cant imagine he would have much left (one or two years at CC one at OU already). I think this is the right suspension length, especially with him going after the fans later. I think that Hount (the B St. player) should get a game suspension. Not because i think that "he deserved it" but that taunting an opposing player, especially after you have one, is pretty bad. I understand there was bad blood between the two of these teams after last year, but once you lay a hand on another player you should receive some amount of punishment.

This kid will be the steal of the draft. He blew his top and he knows it. But it will cost him draft spots, and some team will "take a chance."
Good job Oregon here. Swift and appropriate.

You can't judge RB's in that stupid friggin offense. Why you have a bulldozer type like this running this finesse crap is beyond stupid and the sooner this bullcrap offense is exposed for the fraud it is-the better as far as I'm concerned.
As for the punch---heat of moment thing and happens. Both the player who taunted and Blount got what they deserved.
This "handshake before the game" CRAP is for the birds. This will CAUSE more problems then it will solve.

I honestly think that I agree with most everything you have all said. A couple of you have stated what I was saying on the air yesterday, in that essentially, they both got what they deserved. Some clowns even tried to suggest that the Boise player might have been saying "tough game" or something similar. Given that Blount had talked about "giving (them) an ass-whipping," I think it's a lot more likely that the Bronco player said something like, "you were right man. That was a hell of an ass-whipping!"

Yep, well said.

Can't argue with you there. As far as "eligibility" is concerned, he is a senior, and isn't eligible for a redshirt. So he can either stay in school to get his degree and then go pro, or he could transfer to a FCS school and be eligible immediately. Without any inside info, I would think this would make the most sense. Given his checkered past, he really doesn't look like the scholarly type. While it might do him some good to remain in a somewhat structured environment without football, I just don't see that happening.

That's the comment I don't fully agree with. While I admit that he's talented, I think you can find just as much athletic ability without the rotted sponge for brains. I'm not going to say that he won't have a successful NFL career, I don't think that I would place extra value on him because of this incident. And unless he miraculouosly learns something from this, then nothing positive can come of it.

Hmmm, I guess I'm a minority of one on this one, 'cause I thought the punishment was a bit much.
Of course what he did was unacceptable, but the whole season seems like quite a penalty for losing your cool with someone taunting you. (yeah, yeah, I know he asked to be taunted by his earlier comments, etc.)
I don't really buy the whole "going after the fans" angle. They were going after him pretty well and he had to be restrained, but nothing really happened there (at least not that I saw).
Anyway, I'm not saying it's like the worst injustice in the world or anything; just thought it was a pretty stiff penalty for a moment of bad judgment....well, technically, no judgment at all.

I agree with Boz - the punishment seems to be excessive, notwithstanding the underlying stupidity of what Blount did. Perhaps other things, such as prior conduct, were weighed in making this penalty.

Lou Holt was saying on ESPN that he had had prior incidents in the past, including getting into it during practice (i think i remember him saying that Blount was suspended from practice for a day or two for it) I agree with what RDF said a few posts up about the stupid handshake at the beginning. It wont stop anything (Blount was one of the players that went for OU!). I much prefer seeing a yelling and shoving match at the 50 yard line, when that happens i know i am in for a good game.

Blount showed up overweight to spring practice and was suspended a few times last year - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LeGarrette_Blount . Really, running backs are a dime a dozen. Why's this guy so much better?

The way I'd put it is that I think that the penalty is excessive (I'd give him 4-6 games), but he shouldn't be surprised that he got the whole season. I think the length of his penalty is based on Oregon wanting to look "tough on crime" more than anything else.
You have to look at the circumstances, and while he was making comments in the media prior to the game, tons of kids do that. If my team was on the cover of SI, and we'd just be beat down like Oregon was, and I had a crappy game, I'm sure I'd at least shove the guy back or get in his face if Hout came up and did what he did.
Also, I hate this "we need to keep him in the program so he has structure" crap we hear all the time from college coaches. I think it is applicable in some cases. But it's almost like a throwaway line being used every time a player is suspended.
If I was the AD, I'd tell the coach to suspend him the number of games necessary to get the message across that what he did was wrong and to make sure it won't happen again, public perception be damned.
Finally, the stuff with fans at the end, on the way back to locker room, doesn't bother me. We've all been to tons of sporting events and can only imagine what was being said, especially in Boise.
