Gibbons is still sucking up to Hairston (last summer he had him inching up towards #1).
He also has Nate listed as 6'9+ . Don't know about that.
His ranking of Roscoe Smith is the lowest I've seen for him.

yeah i was going to say it must be the best one since it has lubick the highest but seeing his hairston ranking makes him lose all credibility. Kendrick is too low as well.

Actually I think HoopScoop has Lubick rated higher than Bob Gibbons.

I thought we loved Hairston. What happened outside of him not signing with the Hoyas?

1) I don't know but from a lot of reports he hasn't developed as much as other players and 2) even when he was god he was never #7 good.

You can see Gibbons' explanation of Roscoe's low ranking at the top of the list. Seems like he's saying there's got to be better production, and not just potential, from Roscoe.

You can see Gibbons' explanation of Roscoe's low ranking at the top of the list. Seems like he's saying there's got to be better production, and not just potential, from Roscoe. If production is what he's looking for then why is Tyler Thornton #54? He hasn't done anything all spring and all summer. He hasn't stood out (in a good way). He's fallen very far in nearly everyone's rankings. But Bob has him hovering around the top 50. Gibbons is such a homer for his precious North Carolina schools. If Roscoe was to commit to Duke today Gibbons would move him up at least 30 spots.

I just have to reiterate that if Hairston & Thornton were our guys, we would be saying how the rankings don't matter and how summer/spring ball isn't indicative of organized play....Riley was underranked when we was our recruit because his team didn't know how to get him the ball. Hairston was a beast until we didn't get him. Our recruits who are underranked are being homered by big school rating service bias.... This gets a little tired.

Human nature is getting a little tired? Everyone does this.
TO be fair even duke fans have acknowledged that a lot of their recruits are more highly ranked than they should be. ( sure it's usually only after they fail but still)

Columbia, seriously where have you been? Hairston has been sinking for the last 7 months...regardless of spring or summer play. Its been talked about a lot...including by Duke fans who saw it as proof that K had to go after "better" guys at his position who would be more of an impact. Just a month ago we had writers saying that he seemed to not have improved at all from last year. To keep him in the top 30 is questionable but not totally crazy. To have him in as high as #7 though is absurd.
And Tyler Thornton, from all reports, has fallen off a cliff. That's why K and Crew have been going after every top pg in the same class to add to their recruiting coup because they know Thornton isn't the immediate answer for them. There were plenty of happy Hoya folks here and on HR when Thornton went to Duke because they felt Markel was a better player.
If these guys were Hoya recruits and their stock were dropping there would indeed be plenty of folks here who would insist that anti-Gtown bias was in effect. And of course there would also be plenty of others who would be worried and questioning the players' abilities too. Its the nature of the beast. But to be frank, yes, the only players we would feel obligated to defend in the first place are Hoya recruits. What do you expect? However even if Hairston and Thornton were guys that Gtown had never recruited their rankings would still stick out like sore thumbs. Gibbons is playing favorites again with recruits of Carolina schools.

How is Kendall Marshall still ranked so high? I've seen him play several times, and he's never even been close to being the most impressive player on the floor in any of the games - I refuse to believe there are only ten players better than him in this class. Must be the UNC effect.

By all accounts, Kendall Marshall has had an outstanding summer. He's been rated by several "gurus" as one of the top players at multiple events. I don't think there's any bias with his rating.

Regardless of ranking, I think the evaluations of these players have stayed more or less the same.
Marshall - fantastic floor leader; not as much of a scorer; guru's view of him depends on whether they think he has enough quickness for college.
Hairston - almost the opposite; tremendous amount of physical tools, but performance was never there. As time goes, the time for tools to translate to performance gets less. A guru's ranking will depend on if and when he thinks it will translate to performance.
In other words, these guys are actually kind of hard to rank relative to others.

I'd be more impressed if most of these guys that call themselves gurus or experts actually saw the kids they rank.

reasonable enough MCI. I hope we are getting guys that will work long term for us and it sounds like we have two such players with hopefully two more to go. I just don't care that much about whether others who are signed/verballed with other schools who are ranked too high because in the end, the games will decide it.
