At the Worlds Champs of Track and Field in Berlin the 100m dash final featured the three fastest sprinters of all time. Usain Bolt was the first to the line in 9.58! His previous record set at the Olympics last year was 9.69, when he celebrated before the line. This time Tyson Gay of the US chased him all the way and in doing so set the American record of 9.71. Asafa Powell also of Jamaica was 3rd in a "pedestrian" 9.84.

At least as long as Johnson was in the 200m before Bolt came along. The question now is "How low can he go?"

I believe a professor did an analysis of human potential, and he predicted the 100m time to go to 9.55. Of course, that was before today's race and Bolt is almost there. It will be interesting to see if he can break the 200m record again. Last year in that race he was really trying, so any improvement will be something like 0.02 - 0.004 s. I can see him proving me wrong on that one.

I see some people are comparing this to Bob Beamon's long jump record. I recall watching that on tv and knowing while I saw him flying through the air that something phenomenal had occurred. I recall thinking "I bet he broke 28 feet" (I think the WR at the time was something like 27'4"), and imagine, he broke 29. I'm not quite sure I would equate a .11 drop in the 100 meter record with that (particularly when you consider that Bolt was goofing off as he crossed the finish line in the 100 at the Olympics), but it's still truly amazing.

Insane Bolt proved me wrong, as he smashed the world record in the 200m in 19.19s.

Are they sure Bolt's not a woman?

Are they sure Bolt's not a woman? Yes! I wonder if he's taking the same stuff that Manny took.

I wonder what could be gleaned from the fact that the world's fastest man by water (Phelps) and the world's fastest man by ground (Bolt), share a certain affinity for a certain naturally growing plant. By the way ... it's really not even close. Those two guys are as dominant in their respective sports as anyone in a long, long time.

How does this make them different from a majority of adult males between the ages of 18 and 25?

Bolt smokes grass too? I mean, he is from Jamaica... but I hadn't heard of that. The only way weed makes you faster is if someone is holding a giant candy bar at the finish line (thank you, Robin Williams). But seriously, Bolt is incredible. Is he or Phelps more dominant? Discuss.

I thought you were talking about yams (Bolt's shoes are the color of yams, his secret ingredient).
I think Bolt is more dominant, but Phelps does more events. Nobody is even close to Bolt in his disciplines. I think he will grow bored of the 100m and 200m and concentrate on taking down the 400m record as low as possible. Can the 800m be far off?

I'm sure a majority (or more) have tried it. I highly doubt that a majority are regular users. Irregardless, neither Michael Phelps nor Usain Bolt are humans anyway, so who knows what effect weed may have on them. Has anyone tested the effects marijuana use may have on their real natural ancestors, cheetahs and mako sharks?

I wish he would do this, but he has made a big deal about how much he hates training for middle distances. But im sure if he dedicated himself he would smash records in all those too.

Hoyarooter, i believe that Usain Bolt is clean. He has been setting records for years and i mean years like since 2001. From the Jamaican record to the Caribbean record to being the youngest junior world champion gold medalist ever. His times have steadily improved along the way and track people have been saying for years that he had the potential to be a great one. I guess they were right. He's just a freak of nature.

I never intended to imply that they were regular users, and I don't think that hifi did either. I guess it depends how you interpret "certain affinity." And sleepy, just because Bolt occasionally smokes grass doesn't mean he isn't clean in the current sense. I certainly hope he is clean. I'm tired of seeing records tarnished.

I couldn't agree more. We obviously agree what "clean" (SHOULD) mean in the modern sense, and I too hope that he's clean. As for records "tarnished" ... given that we have gotten this far, I will rob from Chevy Chase's 2nd or 3rd best comedy .... "I'd hate to see my records tarnisheed" ... Ok, that's a stretch, but the Fletch fans among us would recognize the reference to "wages garnisheed" ...
On a related note ... at least with respect to the actor in question ...
"Do you smoke pot, Danny?"
"Everyday"
"Good."
nuff said ....
I didn't say it, but I can't say that I could argue with Mr. Chase on that one ... even if he does compare himself with other golfers "by height."

No. Dirty. Freak of nature, maybe. Clean? God, no. All of these guys are dirty as sin.
