After Florida followed up back-to-back National Championship seasons with back-to-back 20 win seasons that only earned NIT bids, it looks like Billy the Kid has decided to reverse the recent trend of having a soft scheduled padded with inferior opponents. While the final schedule has yet to be finalized, some mathups have been announced. Florida's schedule will include home games against Xavier and FSU as well as a road trip to N.C. State. Florida is also slated to play Syracuse in Tampa in the final year of the SEC-Big East challenge. Finally, Florida's proposed game at Rutgers has been incorporated into a tournament. Florida will play National Runner-Up Michigan State at a yet-to-be-determined neutral site and then would face either UMass or Rutgers. That is a far cry from the steady diet of Charleston Southerns that were featured on Florida's schedule the past couple of seasons. www.gatorsports.com/article/20090710/ARTICLES/907109946/1136?Title=Gators-will-take-on-Spartans

Purely quantity over quality in this case.

For the record, I certainly didn't expect this thread to be welcomed with "open arms." But I did think that it, at least, deals with a generally relevant issue. No -- I didn't mean the Gators. They are way more relevant than that. In all seriousness, the issue here is the balance between having a "competitive" schedule and yet still having the impressive resume' at the end of the year. What looks better -- having a mediocre 17-13 record but playing a schedule like this one or having a 22-9 record, playing more scrubs? Billy D. was pretty much criticized for his first 6 or 7 years because our guys "wore down." The schedule was good, but come conference and NCAA time, we didn't do very well, with the Runner-Up 2000 season being the exception. We were bounced in the first weekend over and over ... even to a point where many were questioning whether Billy could ever develop our program beyond that level.
Then we went on both extremes.
I know that you high-rolling Big East teams don't worry about such stuff, but what is your general view?

That half-hearted Big East-SEC Challenege is still taking place? Who knew? Personally, I like it when they get together for almost promotional events like that. I wish they wouldn't spread it out over 3 years though.
