I realize the Mark Sanford and Sarah Palin stories are of much greater national interest, but can we all just take a moment to marvel at the continued travails of Washington, D.C.'s most favoritest prodigal son and eternal f***-up, Marion Barry? www.washingtoncitypaper.com/display.php?id=37514(Warning: the cover of The City Paper displayed at the link above and the audio files in the story are nowhere near safe for work) No offense bando and others, but if there is one thing above all else that makes me question the alleged sophistication of D.C. residents, it is the fact that this ridiculous man continues to get elected to public office. ;D On the brighter side, maybe Calvin Klein can bring back those old "Obsession" commercials with a new twist.

I clicked on this thread because I thought the looney-tunes had finally gotten Shepard Smith fired. This thread is like a box of chocolates.

Boz, while I share your sense of schadenfreude about Hizzoner, his election is not an argument against voting rights. Picking good leaders is not a requirement for the franchise, it's a basic right of a citizen. Otherwise we would have disenfranchised pretty much the entire United States by now. Do you agree, or should I get the disenfranchisement order ready for the entire population of South Carolina?

Just a couple of things:
A. I think you know this already, but I was really just making a joke.
B. I wasn't arguing against voting rights (Oh, I'll make that argument, don't you worry; I just wasn't making it here). I was simply decrying Washington, DC, voters -- whom Sarah Palin would refer to as not real Americans anyway -- as being not at all smart or sophisticated, but rather extremely dumb for continuing to elect this man. And I was pretty much joking there too, though with a touch of realism added in. ;D
I do feel bad for poor Marion though. These dang b**ches keep setting him up.

It's also fair to note that he hasn't won a citywide race since last being mayor. His seat isn't at large, it's just for ward 8.

True, true.
In a purely hypothetical, though, I'd be willing to bet cash money that Barry could still win a city-wide race as well as be elected in at least 6 of the DC wards.
Well, maybe not right now, but before this latest came out, I'd bet that.

Remember his tax problem? Getting stopped by the park police with trace amounts of cocaine?

I think he could win Ward 5 and Ward 7 but that is about it.

I agree 100% and it's time we gave the citizens of D.C. two Senators and X number of Representatives, all accomplished via a Constitutional Amendment.
