Gtown has been trying to recruit Fab Melo the big 7ftr Brazilian. But his high school coach is a cuse/l'ville guy, while his aau coach is a florida guy. So I would not get my hopes up that he ends up at Gtown. He does want to play in a program known for developing bigs, and he does want early PT. So that helps Gtown (bigman U) with Monroe opening up a nice spot in the middle...
Per zagsblog today interviewing Fab's high school coach:
Melo’s list consists of Louisville, Florida State, Syracuse and UConn, according to Sagemont head coach Adam Ross. “Kentucky and Georgetown are recruiting him very hard, so is Texas,” Ross said by phone. Melo has visited UConn, Syracuse, Louisville, Florida and Florida State and will decide by the fall. “I think he’ll cut the list down after the July period to two or three schools and either make a decision based on those visits or he’ll wait until school starts Aug. 24 where he’s able to take official visits and visit a couple of those places,” Ross said. “He’ll sign a National Letter of Intent somewhere in November. He won’t be a late signer.”

maybe if he was a late signer and we had more time to make up ground, but yeah I don't know if we really have a shot, but JTIII and the whole staff were apparently watching him play at Cinci.

Here is some video of him a few months ago. He is a much better player now, and is really developing:

Didn't that original post on zags say that Louisville and UConn were leading?

I'd rather see hi go to Louisville if Gtown can't get him. Obviously I despise the Cuse. As for UConn I'm sick of calhoun becoming obsessed with big men simply because he wants to lead the nation in blocks every year.

Yeah, he will most likely end up at l'ville since his coach is close with patino and even took him to an l'ville game when he first got to the U.S. But since this beginning of the live recruiting period has frankly been boring with a very low level of play thus far, figured we would talk about something... Lebron's camp has one uber talent in Gilchrest, and then a lot of just good players. The take 5 in Cincy and the Reebok in Philly are way down this year because most good players are at Lebron. Things should pick up a lot at the Peach Jam coming up where most of the good teams will be.

most people thought he would commit shortly after his visit to central ny a few months ago but i think louisville is the team to beat now.

Scout article on Melo quotes him saying Louisville, UCONN, Syracuse and Florida State are his top 4 schools.

According to Scout.com, he has chosen to go with Cuse.
I wonder what impact this will have on Dashonte Riley, as neither one of these guys is PF. He will have year to develop into a PF b/c I dont think you can play these two together too much as they are both centers.
Well, I guess you could play these two together, but from what I have seen, neither like to play D on the perimeter so I cant see them playing D on a/n 4.
In any event great p/up for the Orange. This guy's potential is off the charts.

They also have another 6'11 kid coming in in the '10 class. Dash is looking real stupid right now.

Hate to say it, but that's a great pick-up for Cuse. With Melo, Waiters, and CJ Fair, Cuse is looking at a top 5 class.
