Sunday night, June 28th at 8:00 just happens to be when the annual BET Awards show takes place. Ron Weisner, former MJ manager (Start of solo career through Thriller) is the Creative Consultant and talent producer of the event. You can be sure there will be a major MJ tribute, and probably quite a few from major stars on the show as well. Of course we are all aware of the deserved controversies around Michael, but he is an international icon whose unparalleled popularity transcends race as well as language and culture. In the African American community his standing is, if anything, even stronger. The BET Awards show will be the first opportunity for the Artist community to pay tribute to Michael. Also, below is a link to a video tribute from The Game, featuring Chris Brown, Diddy, Usher, Boyz to Men, more: Michael Jackson Tribute - The Game

BET Changing Awards Show to Michael Jackson TributeExcerptJackson’s impact on our lives has been significant. Whether exhibited by his humanitarian efforts, his ability to reshape the concept of a music video, or his engaging star power, “The King of Pop” is unlike any other artist, defining the very fabric of what popular music is today. Michael Jackson’s influence is undeniable, as traces of his style are prevalent in a number of today’s top artists. But his significant impact on this network will also forever be etched into the history tablets of Black Entertainment Television. Taking all of his monumental contributions into consideration, the 2009 BET Awards will be dedicated to the unparalleled “King of Pop” and we will spend the evening paying tribute to the legacy of Michael Jackson. Tune in to BET for this historic event, airing live, Sunday, June 28 at 8 p.m./7C. [/blockquote]
