You might as well be talking about 1000 years ago. Let's try sticking with modern developments. Here's the scenario: kid living in subsidized housing with his single mother and two of his siblings. Family badly needs money and kid is a 5-star BB player. ACLU takes his case to court as a hardship saying NBA is violating his right to work in his profession. Citing the Constitution giving the federal government the right to regulate interstate commerce, including the commerce of the NBA, the ACLU makes its case. Might even cite the 1000 year old Curt Flood case as a precedent. Kid wins case. Possible? It's not unprecedented for college players to try and sue about draft eligibility restrictions. Maurice Clarett did sue, won the first round (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=1727856), lost on appeals and then became eligible and stopped caring. And Terrelle Pryor might end up suing the NFL about their draft rules. msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/terrelle-pryor-ohio-state-supplemental-draft-take-battle-to-courts-072511 The problem is that by the time the case is resolved, the player who sued is eligible for the draft. That's what happened with Clarett, and what will likely happen with Pryor. www.enquirer.com/midday/04/04242004_Sports_mday_clarett.html

He can always play in the NBDL or play in Europe. There are other options than the NBA.

Could be a hoax or a twitter hack but reportedly he has announced on his twitter account that he has changed his mind and will play for UConn...this season.

If he is paying his own way...the NCAA needs to be in Storrs Monday morning.
It's either that or a kid getting his scholarship yanked this weekend with school starting on Monday.

Center Andre Drummond tweets he will enroll at UConn for 2011 seasonBy Associated Press, Updated: Friday, August 26, 9:03 PM STORRS, Conn. — Andre Drummond, a 6-foot-11 center from Middletown, Conn., who was expected to attend prep school this year, has instead said he will play basketball for defending national-champion Connecticut.
Drummond confirmed an earlier report by The Hartford Courant with a posting on his Twitter account Friday that read, “It’s official I’m heading to the university of connecticut to be a husky this year! Do I hear repeat.”
It’s not clear where his scholarship will come from. Connecticut has none available after losing three due to NCAA rules violations and a poor academic performance rating.

If what has been posted in other threads is true, he cannot be a walkon. It is also unlikely that at this late juncture Calhoun would throw another player off the team. What is the deal where some teams place a player on a scholarship from another sport. Can they use baseball, soccer or another sports scholarship for Drummond? Does anyone know!

ON EDIT - Looking at the UCONN board, they're somehow deluding themselves into thinking Drummond can pay his own way or Olander can drop to walkon, despite both having been recruited players...

You really think Calhoun is above kicking a kid off the day before school? HA! We will find out in due time. I smell a "leaving the team for personal reasons" headline coming soon!

UConn preseason #1?? Itll be interesting to see where this scholarship comes from. All of this seems veryyyyy shady given the fact that he "declared" a few weeks ago that he was prepping.

IMO the only thing shady about this decision is the scholarship situation. If this kid was going to college he was going to go to UConn. Simple as that.
